Well I read a few reviews on the internet, most seemed good, so like a fool I bought one
Good bits:
very light
naff all recoil
looks nice
Bad bits:
crap power
blueing on the barrel comes off
poor finish on stock
too much plastic
Shop i spoke to said it would be fine for bunny busting, but they are wrong, accuracy over 20yrds is rubbish, and the pellet drop was something else, I ran out of adjustment on my scope at 30yrds. Also after taking it shooting in my field in dry weather 3 times the barrel has gone rusty and the blueing (I think it is only paint) has come off, despite spraying with bisley oil when put away. The finish on the stock is crap too, rough cuts on the top where the barrel fits and bubbles in the laquer. If I had seen it in the shop i would not have taken it, but I bought mail order and I am in the process of sending it back.
All in all a good tool for kids to go plinking in the back garden but no use whatsoever for the use it marketed at
BTW I think hey can be picked up in the USA for about £40, they are about £120 over here  If I paid £40 I would be happy to keep it for plinking

Hi,
Best thing to do with Crosman guns is to actually finish them, they are best regarded as 'work in progress' when you buy them new.
For very little outlay and a bit of work, you can turn them into full power accurate rifles.
My order of improvements would be;
1. Replace breech/bolt with the steel breech/bolt from the King Ratty (AS2250XT)
This will replace the crappy open sights with the ability to fit a scope to something that doesn't move (eg Pro-Blox), it will also mount the barrel securely
2. Recrown the barrel.
Crosman should be shot for the rubbishy crown on many of their barrels (assuming you could actually hit them). I usually cut the last 1cm of the barrel off with a hacksaw, square it with a file and refinish the muzzle and crown with 400/600 grade wet 'n' dry.
3. Polish the moving parts.
Hammer, trigger contacts, inside of tube etc.
4. Valve work.
Increase volume, smooth out internal corners, enlarge outlet port and make up better transfer port seal.
There are a few more bits and peices you can do, the main thing is get a chrono, if you don't already have one, on a warm day these rifles can go over the edge once modified, I tend to set mine up around 11ftlbs.

i have one of the above to and paid £40.00 for it. I changed the breeach area for one from Tr Robb, polished the valves, worked on the stock, fitted an SD trigeer shoe and its pushing 11 foot pounds on a good hot day, this time of year 10 foot pounds. Yes blueing is not to good b ut could allways spray it with paint from a car accesory shop, take your time you could be surprissed at result. These guns are cheap as chips in US, we pay way over the odds for them in RIP off UK !!, but and to me this is important they are very versitile and good fun to work on, not as well built as classic Crossmans but what is these days ! even Webleys are made in Turkey !!. Enjoy these guns for what they are and thats fun. Best regards to all.:):):)

hi dodgey, yes i have a78 to. Its a good little gun and a rather nice copy of the old 160 from crossman. :)
I bought one off here a while back. I don't know if it had been fettled, but accuracy was excellent - it would shoot cloverleafs at 25 yards with H&N FTT and produced about 10.5 fpe.
The only downside (apart from the rip off UK price) was CO2 usage - only about 20 shots per capsule before the power started dropping off.
It was considerably better than the QB78 which I had - which wouldn't group better than 3" at 25 yards.

The blueing is crap, but i just rubbed the whole gun down (took about an hour) with different grades of wet n dry, to reveal a lovely shiney silver metal gun! It has been like this for about 3months and has not rusted in the slightest, so i would say that this is a free mod that will really bling up your ratty! I also put a tr robb block, which is ok, but i would never buy from him again. There are better replacement breeches out there with a much better back up service!

i bought one of these on the weekend as i said in my introduction post.i have found mine to be accurate at upto about 30 yards at 1 inch. which i think i could proberly improve on if i was good enough myself alot of people dont like them but for my skill level its great for me as my skill level is not out doing the air rifle as of yet when it does i will buy a better rifle.one thing to remember though is not everyone has a majour budget to spend on air rifles.i.e my budget was 100 pound for everything all in.personaly id recomend them to anyone who is in my situation if you can find one cheap like me with all the abouve mods already done.
