View Full Version : Silence your Hornet in Style

Maybe a bit dumpy to look good on something like a Longbow or a Logun, but I've just put a Webley & Scott BBMF short silencer (4") on my Hornet 'k', and it really looks the part. In my opinion, it suits the style of the gun perfectly.

This BBMF short moderates the sound quite adequately, and doesn't look like you've grafted a Fairy Liquid bottle painted black to the end of your barrel (which I feel is the result the recommended BSA SAS silencer had/has). I've also tried RWS Mandas and P-H silencers, but these look a little odd as they are too skinny for the chunkyness of the Hornet 'K'.

To summarise then, in my opinion a BBMF 4" short on a BSA Hornet 'K' has the effect of creating a slightly longer looking version of the Ultra: FANTASTIC! Hope I've helped: G W-B :)

Hi Maverick and Bill, would love to post photos, its just that I'm a technophobic luddite and just haven't got the equipment (digital camera or scanner), just my humble PC which is already a bit of a dinosaur. Got a club M8 who may be able to oblige though, I'll ask him.

The BBMF short is allmost as quiet as the SAS, although the SAS has the edge. But the SAS is PIG ugly, and I prefer to balance function with form. New the BBMF short should cost around £35 and s/h around £20 posted (there have been a few on the BBS of late).

As stated in the main review, I'm happy with my Webley BBMF 4" short. But although it has now sold (not suprised), bez was offering a bit of kit above that BSA told me would only ever be available with an actual Ultra.

But bez has proved that these silencers can crop up from time to time, so if you do have a Hornet 'K' to silence and want to "silence it in style", here is yet another moderator that'll do the job perfectly if you can be patient enough to wait for one?

Finally, Kilty will be taking the requested digital photos next Sunday, so watch this space as they say, as he will (hopefully) be attaching them here as a post. Cheers all: Gareth :)

Cheers Kilty. There you go chaps: the pictures you've been waiting for (assume they are the gooduns taken in my conservatory, as my technophobic luddite knowledge of the wibbly wobbly web means that as yet, I haven't fathomed out how to open them :o ). Cheers all: Gareth W-B.

I kinda agree with you Kes, this review should be allowed to drift away for reference etc only. After all, its had around 1000 views to date! Only trouble is M8, by adding your post above, you forced it to the top again (as indeed I have by replying :p )... Anyway, point taken, so unless any other air gunners want to ad their bit (which they are more than welcome to do) thus sending this post back to the top again, let this "Silence Your Hornet In Style" post R.I.P. HAPPY CHRISTMAS All :)

Humm, missed the point? Perhaps I have... I thought you were playing on the ironic transfer of wish against obvious consequence to create a whimsical comment? That in mind I joined the genre by creating a double reverse irony with my post in response... But then your second post  ? Nope, you’ve got me mate.

Your tangential plane of sub-diffusion obviously operates on a much higher philosophical level than mine (or could it be that possibly, just possibly, your first post WASN’T FUNNY?)... Ha ha :D All the best Kes, now lets let this thread lie :p .

Sorry all, but one last thing that has just come to light... I have today taken delivery of an Ultra silencer, and it is worth noting that these will not fit straight on to a standard Hornet set-up without modifying/changing the barrel end shroud.

For ease then, the best option is still the Webley & Scott BBMF Short. But if you are after one of these, hurry as Webley & Scott have gone into receivership so may stop production any day now if a buyer for their company can not be found :(
