I purchased my HW90K about 2 years ago now and it has given 2 great years worth of services and enjoyment. This rifle was my second 'proper' air rifle after i first got my trusty BSA Lightning a 9 months previous to that.
My thinking behind this purchase was that I wanted a reliable, cheapish hunting rifle with a self contained powerplant as I didn't yet want to venture into the world of pcp's. So this narrowed my options down to the theobens (Evolution or Fenman) or the HW90K. I would of probably bought a theoben but I got a very good deal on a second hand HW90K.
Unlike the Theobens it isn't a looker but a very plain affair, but since when have looks affected performance! ( well maybe sometimes). When I got round to zeroing my new toy I got the usual pellet brands out air arms -hated 'em, daystates-same results, Lazapell- getting better, RWS superdomes-great then I tried accupells and with applying the correct shooting technique etc. no word of a lie I got a real single hole 3 shot group at 30y, I was chuffed.
There was unfortunatley one thing I didn't like about the HW90K and this was strangely the trigger, I found the first stage too long for my liking (has any one else found this).
At first I found the firing cycle strange, it felt different to my lightning some how the recoil just felt different, it felt like shooting a small bore rifle, it wasn't until later that I found out the gas-ram recoils differently to a springer. Another point I would like to bring up is that the recoil in a gas ram isn't actually less than a springer it feels as if there is just as much recoil going on, even on a heavy rifle like the HW90K. This is another issue worth looking at if your in the market for a HW90K it's weight, weighing in at 8.5lbs it's for men only!
In conclusion I found that my HW90K has like I mentioned above given me a few years of work horse like service and enjoyment, this was proven last summer when I claimed 13 maggies with it, all of them head shots apart from 2 which were abot 10y away and they were chest shots still the end result was the same, but for the record I only do head shots whilst hunting as this is really the only place that you are more a less guarenteed a clean kill. This rifle is still with me but sees not really much use as I have gone to the dark side of pcp's infact it's worse than that my favourite pcp is in .177 and I find it better than .22!

Any thoughts on this little reveiw would be much appreciated.

Cheers Kieran

I always wanted a HW90. I remember when the hw90 euro with the shorter barrel and nice walnut stock came out. Dont see many of those around do you?
I wonder how many they made, could be a good buy now.

Tidy Review.
Mine is .20 and is very accurate out to 60 yards or so.
Very flat shooting with HNFTT and Superfield. Hates Accupel.
I use a Hawke 6x42 on a Dampamount .The Mildots are very helpful and I use the second down for 60 yards .One up for 20.
Rabbits are taken as headshots or occationally through the shoulder/heart.
They don't get up.
Whilst it is heavy a good sling helps a lot and I like some weight for steadiness. As you rightly say the recoil is like .243 .Very fast compared to a spring.
Build quality and finish is very good.

If you are after a .22 I may know someone selling. Let me know if you want me to ask him.

I've had my HW90 in .177 for years now (must be 7 or 8 at least). Its accurate, feels very well made and I actually love the trigger and saftey catch (I think its a record trigger) and I also think you can adjust the first stage if the travel feels to long, although this is the way I like mine.I'm sure someone on the general forum could advise.
All in all a very good gun,but like you say very heavy and you know you've been carrying one after a couple of miles (only downside for me). In the future I will probably be going pcp but I will never part with this gun as its a very good standby.

They had to redesign the trigger, because the Rekord trigger wouldn't fit with the gas ram. They called the trigger "Elite" and it was supossed to be almost as good as the Rekord... I'm afraid I never had the pleasure of trying one, but the trigger can't be any worse than the ones that Theoben fit to their guns.... The Euro was a real looker and always wanted one of those

after reading this thread i got my 90 out of the cupboard and decided to do a strip and recon
unfortunately it will be a long drawn out process
it is an early model with a beach stock (striped by a previous owner )
but now needs some tlc
have ordered up some of the major consumables
and started work on the stock (what plonker put wax on it)
going to send the outside bits of to get re-blued
and to think i only bought it to shoot up an old wedding album :D

ps will try to take some photos of the rebuild (if it goes wrong i will shoot them as well)

Okay, pointless fact number 53.
When theoben did the wh90 euro they had to cut the ends oof the barrels and lots of ends were thrown away. Some bright spark (Ben?) thought, "what happens if we put one of these end bits of barrel on an action?", they did, it was accurate and hey presto the Fenman was born.
