Mini-14 housing are good. How good the image quality is depends on the tube put inside but with a good tube they are great device's overall.

I prefer having an add on (PVS-14 in my case) to a dedicated Gen 3 rifle scope because I can use it for other things and I can get more zoom which would be helpful with a CF.

Smaller, lighter & with better optics than the PVS-14, Gary

A few less optional extras, granted, but...

And more waterproof Ian.

Ians "But" mean's that the few less accessories it has over the PVS-14 doesn't detract from the device at all.

That will depend on the dayscope and illumination source.

Hi Gary i have a MUM mini 14,from the states, with US gen 3 select alpha tube, which is awsome, but i only use it as a scanner,i have never tried it as a add on,although i do have the kit to attach.totally water proof,i was stalking a fox one night, and left my 14 by my 4x4,on a ground sheet,it was raining hard and when i returned after a hr,,it was submerged totally,,thought oh xxxx,,but when i turned it on was fine.
i use dedicated NV scopes, which are hell better than any add on.also its safer to use as scanner.no waving rifles around in the dark.

Mick

I have had both, PVS-14 and Mini-14 but I cannot confirm the Mini had better optics. I'd say they were perfectly on par.

I agree on Mini being slightly smaller and lighter. For a hunter the Mini has one considerable drawback - it makes an audible click noise when switched on. Accessories are also harder to come by.

on a par

I have both mini 14 and single battery pvs 14 ,which is big improvement on the double battery version as far as size, weight and water ingress is concerned. The optics are on a par, mini and pvs.
You can improve image quality by adjusting the gain on the pvs (Just a tweek)
The pvs has a sensor that switches the unit off after 70 seconds if the light levels are too high. Not so on the mini......I know that from experience.......I left my mini switched on one night and put a burn on my tube.
I would give the pvs the edge..... just my opinion though

Obviously you have never seen through either unit side by side!
Anyone that has would not make a comment like that - the PVS-14, as other posters have said, will have a slight edge optically, all other things being equal.
The MUM is lighter, but the PVS-14 is more robust.
