QL suggests 21.0gn N120 over a 40gn Vmax, with SAMMI spec case and OAL of 2.220". This might be a good place to start, but use at your peril!

Matt.

bit fast maybe ?
Should work fine but i always lean towards the slowest posder i can get away with. EG in 204 i use Reloder 15. It fills the case perfectly and shoots really well.

Todd Kindler recommends N135 from Vit (Start around 26.0gr), H322 (start around 24,0) Reloader 10X (start around 25.0). His loads are known to be hot so be very carefull.

That makes N120 to hot.

I find N135 OK in the .204, good accuracy but struggling with the velocity.
N133 is definately better and N130 better still.
Never tried N120 but Sako use it in their factory 222/222rem mag/223 so I reckon it will work in the 204.
I would start at 25g and work up.

I realise that QL is not the be all and end all, but it suggests 25gn might be a bit stiff, with a load ratio of 106% and peak pressure of 85000PSI. Becuase the powder is effectively too fast for 40gn heads, I'd tend to start quite a bit lower. (On paper, N120 looks ideal for 32gn heads though).
'Fast for cailbre' powders can be successful but peak pressures rise very quickly. Obviously, mileage may vary.

A bit stiff! That has to be the understatement of the year! You could well end up eating white hot bits of gun with that!

Viht N120 is far too quick for 40 grain loads. I wouldn't bother trying, but if you have to, I'd start at about 19.5 grain and work up.
QL predicts a max load producing 3574 fps with a long barrel.
IMR 3031, Win 747, Viht N550, Reloader-17, BL-C(2) etc all give another 200 fps for the same pressure.

Kev.

I have yet to see any powder beat BL-C(2) for velocity out of a 204 with moderate pressure.

It's the best.
