im one of the few that live in the middle of no-where

i take my girls to school i have a 14.4 mile round trip IN THE MORNING2 of my girls go to the same school - 1 in pre-school the other in primary
the youngest goes to the same nursery school as the other two went to

i cant wait until january when my eldest is doing full days in primary school - despite being promised full days from september, thanks to the temporary headteacher who doesnt have the cajones to do the right thing - really screws up my working day and adds 10 miles to the school run due to her finishing at 12:00

and then again in april when all three girls go to the same place all doing the same hours 9 - 3 will save me a fortune on diesel

at present monday to thursday the school run for ONE day is 38.4 miles

no point putting the eldest on the school bus for two reasons
1) it doesnt go past my house
2) im going there anyway

When my daughter is old enough, the school is within 1/2 mile and safe to walk to.
However, while she is young she will be dropped off by car at my mum's, which is within 100yds of the school gates. If we didn't both work full-time we would definitely walk.
It's the same here, the streets nearby look like a female off-roaders convention, though without any mud. If all the kids came from within the school catchment area there'd be very little need for cars, but they come from miles around.

I know that feeling, my daughter aged 5 is at school 12 miles away, some days the wife is working in completely the opposite direction, so its 35+ minute drive 12 miles one way, turn round sit in all the traffic to go 20ish miles back past home to work, then repeat in the evening LOL

even if she was at home non working, our school run mileage is 240+ miles per week,

actual school run mileage is far higher as on 50-60% of the days my wife is working several miles in the opposite direction of our house

I had been wondering just why she uses so much fuel and clocks up so many miles, and now I just realised LOL

153.6 miles monday to thursday thats the school run alone - thankfully only the eldest is in school on fridays, the car gets a rest
153.6 miles and i dont even go anywhere
