Need a "hunting mag" Milldot PA scope

Hi all,

I need a scope for an FAC airgun, shooting at anything from 20 to 80 yards.

After the following features:
- Milldot
- PA
- Mag range 3 or 4 to about 10 or 12 - maybe fixed 7 / 8 / 9
- Moderate weight
- Good low-light
- Reasonably decent quality

I currenty use a Predator 3-9x50, which is OK, except for it's very heavy...

Anything else I should consider ? I tried a Meopta 7x50, it's great, but the parallax eror at the closer ranges (less than 50 yards) is too big an issue.

Thanks in advance,

JB

I'm looking for something very similar too, and have rejected the Meopta for exactly that reason.

I'm being a bit more picky though: I'm looking for something that can be fitted with a similar reticule to the Meopta 4B or 8B - the one with the two little graduated lines below the X-hairs.

S&B are one possibility but I think they charge silly money for a different reticule. Leopold are another, but I don't think they or Premier Reticules can supply ther Meopta type reticule - they will only supply either dots or lines ruled straight across the complete field of view.

Any ideas, anybody?

Andy

DMP 4-16x56 mildot (Hakko). Brilliant on my fac S10...

Also very good but without the PX and BDC's is the DMP 3-12x56 IR mildot (I dont have to twiddle anything when lamping!)

One of the smaller Burris scopes might do the trick, BuddyBoy. The Signature range parrallaxes down to airgun distances. I have the 8-32x 50 - in fact you've used it when it was mounted on my Ripley and the image quality is outstanding. That one wasn't milldot but they do exist.

Incidentally, I'm assuming that your Meopta is parralzed for 100 yds. There are Meoptas about that are set for 50yds - I know since I have one -it's a 6x42.

Thanks all...

couple of questions though if I may...

Tim, what thr weight like on the DMP 4-16x56 mildot + the DMP 3-12x56 IR mildot ?
Also, is the latter reparalaxable ? Finally, is the IR "sensible" i.e. not sunburn inducing ?

Hi Lionel,

Interesting on the Meoptas; your assumption on 100 yards is correct - is the paralax range fixed for each model, i.e. 6x42 is 50, 7x50 is 100, or are they set up as the buyer requests ? Will try and research this one myself...

I have a small Burris which I like, might have to have a looksee through something larger - but what is the weight like on the bigger ones ?

Cheers,

JB

Hi Jon,

The DMP range are fairly hefty lumps, especially the ones with the big objective lenses. If the weight of the predator is too much for what you want on that combo then the big DMPs are going to be way too much scope.

I've got a Bushnell (ex B&L) Mildot fixed 10x40 'tactical' style scope which is nice and light; used on a .22 rimfire. I can bring it along to Bisley on Sunday if you are coming along and want to have a look-see. (nb. its not for sale though!!!) The only criteria it doesn't meet is the PA bit - you have to do that mandraulically

Regards,

David

Hi Dave, just been looking at the Deben site -you ain't joking, they are way heavier than the Preds / Pros stalks..

unfortunatley I won't be able to make the Bisley shoot but I appreciate the offer - would have been nice to catch up with you again.

The B&L looks interesting, but I really want to retain the ability to wind the mag down so say 6 (ideally 4) for close range work, e.g. tracking squirrels through the branches...

PA isn't critical (especially if the zoom is retained), but would be handy...
Am also considering the cheaper Leups...

Cheers,

JB

For heavens sake.....

6X42 Meopta, lovely glass, multiple aimpoint reticle - bargain of the century

1) Take scope out of box and mount on gun

2) Shoot rabbits

The rabbits won't care where it's parallaxed and neither will you

The DMP's are big and heavy but with a 56mm front end and 30mm tube they are not going to be lightweights.

The 3-12x56 has a factory PX of about 100 yards. First off I got Deben to re-PX for me. They did an aweful job... After a bit of bu@@ering about I got it sussed and pulled the focus in a bit while still maintaining a crisp image at 100 yards. It shoots very well with a lamp on my FAC S10 carbine. The IR rets are great. Lots of adjustment and the choice of red or green. At night I usually shoot on the min. green setting.

Sid if this one has the 50 yard parallax setting lionel mentions, then I'd prolly agree with you

However my 7x50 is PAd at 100 yards, and whilst the clarity is fine at closer ranges, the "error" is unnaceptable...

Any ideas ???

Cheers,

JB

I think all Meoptas are factory set for 100m (not yds to be pedantic) Check http://www.volny.cz/f.a.o./puskohl.htm & http://www.meopta.cz/products/scopes...emis_1000_6x42

Maybe you can order ones with parallax set to 50m... but not too sure how that works, I think you can order directly from their website (http://www.meopta.cz/order/) so that is wortha try, but payment seems compliacted... no cards..

Last time I looked into this I was told there is a Meopta with PA comming out this year... do not know if this had happened?

Peter.
