    maximum velocity

can anyone tell me at which point does a pellet reach it's maximum velcotiy when fired?
i.e. half way up the barrel, just leaving the barrel or 10 feet after it's left the barrel ?

Within the first eight inches or a little less for a 12fpe.

A PCP tends to accelerate the pellet all the way along the barrel. This is why fitting a longer barrel usually increases power, and also why using a heavier pellet usually (but not always) increases power.

Whereas a springer shifts a far lower volume of air and acceleration is usually all done with pretty quickly (within the first 8 inch or so).

I assumed springer as most PCP would benefit efficiency wise from a longer tube.
