How a ban can work .....

Handgun crime figures, not airgun, I know, but it shows how a ban can work:

Injury by being fired, used as a blunt instrument or in a threat

    1996 - 279 (Dunblane)
    1997 - 393 (Ban)
    1997/98 - 317
    1998/99 - 239
    1999/00 - 352
    2000/01 - 400
    2001/02 - 648
    2002/03* - 640
    2003/04* - 590

Figures from Gun Control Network web site.

    Something to keep in mind.

Err, those statistics show that since the ban in 1997, handgun crime has nearly doubled.

    97/98 - 317

    03/04 - 590

In 02/03 it had more than doubled since the ban (640)

I dont understand what you mean about it working...unless you were being sarcastic?

Since the ban on handgun we had no gun crime what so ever..... yeah right...

looks to me gun crime is on the rise, so why the ban?

Firearm restrictions in the UK have _never_ been about crime prevention
    or public safety.

I feel like its Blairs way of keeping the gun away from the good common man, incase there was ever an uprising against the goverment.

Hitting the nail on the head there.
They started a scare then got votes by dealing with where the public believed the danger came from. Sportsmen like us, not drug dealing gangs

Like Prohibition in America, or cannabis in the UK, where there exists already an infrastructure to provide a good or service, criminalising it only removes the legislation and safety measures associated with it. Figures reflect this, in the case of handgun bans, and almost anything else..

It was fear of such an uprising that prompted the Firearms Act of 1920....in a
country awash with WW1 surplus weaponry, it was feared war veterans would
    go Bolshevik.

Bugger it. When they ban us I'm taking up knitting.

What diameter needles should I use .177 or .22?
Old age is mandatory, growing up is optional.

I say the problem is predominantly due to illegal drugs and how does the Government handle this?

They down grade the classification to make it look less of a crime! Good message you’re sending out Mr Blair!

    And what happens?

Competition in the dealing world increase which ultimately leads to the turf wars and GUN CRIME!
