    Help needed with power level

    I am completely confused

Decided to check my HW100 over the combro this evening to make sure all was OK.

I put some penetrators through (9.5gr) and found the power to be going a touch over 12 Ft/Lb

    PANIC

Put some Bis Mags through (10.6gr) power fell to about 11.6 Lb/Ft

Put some Barracudas through (10.35gr) power drops below 11 Ft/Lb

My usual pellet - accupel (7.9gr) is getting power of around 11.6Ft/Lb

BUt AA feilds (8.44 gr) are putting me over the limit again 12.18 Lb/Ft.

So.......power is OK with heaviest and lightest pellets but is going over with mid-weight pellets

Can anyone please help explain this also any advice would be good but I guess the gun is going to have to go away to be tuned down a bit.

    Cheers,
    Si

    Sweet Spot

I have found the gun to be pretty consistent throughout its usable fill pressure. The gauge on the front is indicating 130 BAR so should be OK

Apart from the weight of the pellet it will also depend on the pellets efficiency.
Another thing that can alter power is the pellet fit in the barrel.

You should test with a variety of pellets for these reasons.

Not a lot. About 5 of each. Didn't bother doing more as it only takes 1 over the limit to cause you trouble...also was in a bit of a flap

Whether it makes sense or not is immaterial. The fact remains that it is capable of running hot!
I’m afraid, to keep on the right side of the law, and to be sure of staying on the right side of the prison wall, you need to get it backed-off a little.

From experimenting with my HW100's, I have theorised that they have slighty tight barrels, which particularly suit the loose-ish Crosman pellets and the soft-ish AA/JSB clones (easily mould to barrel).
The Bismags, which are a tight fitting pellet, don't give any higher reading because they drag too much on the barrel. I find the Bismag accuracy to be very, very poor from my HW's - and my HW's give Bismags a poor ballistic coefficient as well.

edited to mention that Bismags/Baracuda's seem OK in my S410's, although I don't use them much.

My Bismags have a head size about 0.05mm bigger and a skirt size about 0.15mm bigger than my Accy's.
