All sound advise. Always treating the gun as if it's loaded, and keeping away from the trigger whilst loading are fundamentals. Also storing it in a safe place where others cant get hold of it is essential. I remember being shot by a friend in the shoulder as a teenager. It hurt like hell, so always checking what's beyond your target in case of ricochet is also a good one to adhere to

there might be a safety catch there but always treat your gun as if there was none...

My tip is always be ready for pellet ricochet,BB guns are even worse. When i am shooting i am always as ready as i can be for a ricochet, normally where i am so ready for them i can see them coming at me too & can quickly get out of the way.BUT SOME YOU WILL STILL NOT SEE.

I would never shoot at something very hard like metal close range because of this reson.Atleast if you are back far enought you will have more time to move and get out of the way.I think shooting BB guns is far worse though as i say and you should ware shooting glasses at all times without fail

Too true, especially at night. Even when shooting on ground that you know well, it's all to easy to loose track of exactly where you are in the dark. Be DOUBLE carefull at night is my advise.

Goes without saying, keeping your hand on the lever when cocking. If you didn't you won't be able to cock it will you. However, keeping your hand on the lever when loading is an even better idea in my opinion as it will stop or reduce the risk of the breach snapping shut with your finger inside it.

Would there be any benefit of joining both organisations? It's great they offer liability cover and that would be one of the lead reasons for me to join - BASC seems to have the edge unless i have missed something?
