    Turret Question?

    Hi,

How do you know how many times to turn your turret to get up to a specific distance and can you please explain what bottoming is.

P.s Are FT Designs Turrets any good because the one i've got at the moment is rubbish.

    Thanks,
    Nick

You either use a computer ballistics program or you sit on the range with bits of card with horizontal lines on them at known ranges. You shoot at every five yards or so until you've got a table full of the clicks for given ranges. Personally I go a bit further and do points between the five yard markers.
You can combine the two methods to save a bit of time.

There is little point even attempting to dial for range if you don't have BDC (FT Type) turrets.

A proper target turret will have a scale that shows below the turret. As you wind it more or less of that scale will be visible. A turret that bottoms usually refers to an overturret that can be set so that when dialling back to zero it only goes just beyond that zero before it hits the scope tube and so will not rotate any further. This is usefull if you are unsure as to whether you are 1 turn out - just dial back until it stops and then dial up from there.

Here you'll find Wayne's scope set-up guide. Invaluable and comprehensive.
