    Blueing

Where is a good place for getting a gun re-blued? do I have to strip it down to shiney bare polished metal before delivering it to the blueing tanks?

A while back I needed to re blue my Browning's barrel.I had a friend of mine who offered to do it for free,as long as I provided the elbow grease!
The stripping back to bare metal was easy, but getting an even sheen on it was the hardest bit.It was done progressively using finer abrasive paper to come to as lustrous a finish as possible, finishing on the buffing wheel.
Then he did the business on it using a long shallow tank over a slow fire, but its all alchemy to me from there onwards.
One word of caution,be careful not to round the sharp edges as you're sanding away,or it'll look bad.
Its a job that can't be rushed and good for meditation
It would be better to have a word with whoever is going to do the blueing, before you put any abrasive paper on to it,imo.
