    Steyr LP50 Opinions + Questions

    Hi all,
this is my first post so hope I don't seem stupid!!

I've been out of airgunning for a few years now and want to get back in to pistol shooting as I can do this in my own back garden when I want. I have decided to get the Steyr LP50 and was looking forward to some encouragement from people here as well as some questions answering.

This is the first pre-charged gun I will have so if anyone can point me in the right direction as to filling gear I'd appreciate it. I was thinking of a 300 bar 3ltr bottle with a gauge but I think I will need an adapter (apparently the din adapter supplied with the gun doesn't seat very well so someone in the Midlands area makes another adapter you use in conjunction with the existing din adapter). Hopefully I'm making sense but if not please let me know or if you have an alternative way your thoughts would be appreciated. Also, I'm not sure of the power of the LP50, I've seen on here around 5.5ftlbs but I'm not sure if that's as standard or with tweaks to the velocity screw, again, some advice here would be appreciated too.

Basically, any advice on the LP50 + recommended charging gear + ammo etc. would be very helpful as I'm new to Steyr and the precharged system.

    Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the BBS and to pre-charged shooting. I don't know anything about the Stery but the cognoscenti will doubtless be along soon.

you can some info from here http://www.potfire.com.au/compend/spstlp5.htm I know its the LP5 but they are one and the same the lp50 has a more rounded trigger guard and the compensator is different
the 300 bar bottle will need an adaptor a 232 bar bottle does not the pistol comes with a good book of instructions

Harry Preston of Steyr UK will be able to supply you with a charging adapter for about £35 made in brass to complement to Steyr one if you are going to use a 300 bar bottle. I have one, heavy but good. I suspect there will be cheaper ones out there but don't know who would have them. Welcome to the board.

Thanks all. I spoke to Harry today and he said that someone in the Midlands area made the relevant adapters, apparently you need to use this adapter with your supplied din adapter, it's difficlut to visualise over the phone though so I'm not 100% sure. I'm just wondering if it would be worth using a 232 bar cylinder instead though as apparently I would not need this adapter.

I'm curious as well as to the problem with the supplied adaptor, given the high cost of the LP50 I would expect it to be ready to go - nice pistol by the way.

Its the length of the threads a 232 version supplied is shorter in length than a 300 bar thread so the O ring does not seat at the bottom of the pillar

Thanks again everyone. This has helped me out a bit. Some responses about the muzzle energy would be welcome though and what, if anything, needs to be done to get it to around the 5.5 ft/lb mark with preferred ammo.

I've heard most German Match pistols are only around 3 ft lbs - it may need an "expert" to get it up to 5 ft lbs AND consistent! H&N may be a good starting point for ammo, they do several pistol specific types. If you're only going for a three litre bottle - probably a good idea for a pistol - I'd go for the 300 bar as you may not get too many fills from the 232. Don't pay much more than £800 for the Steyr - thats around the going price in Germany.

the velocity runs around 500-540 ft /sec when bought
no expert needed they are consistent around 5 fps from the off use finale match in my LP5
the clyinders for pistols are tiny so do not use much air I think its about 80 shots per clyinder you so now when the air is dropping the action does not function in semi-auto you have to manually cock the pistol to fire

Thanks xbow, I know the power can be easily adjusted via the velocity screw, clockwise to increase and vice versa but would like to know how they are set from the factory. I don't really want to mess around with the velocity screw incase I go too far.

I agree about the bottle, it would be better to go 300 bar and just get the extra adapter. Will probably get the gun through Harry Preston, it's £905 but he's the official UK dealer and I'd imagine he'd deal with any problems pretty quick so I think it's worth paying the extra for piece of mind.

Just got to sort out what grip size I will be now.
