How serious do you take shooting comps.

Just like to know really where you all fit in, Or have you had a good/bad round that sticks in your mind with someone..

What category do you come in:

1) Some people love to have a right laugh as they go round,
2) some don't like to get too involved.
3) Some just complain all the way round.
4) Some keep asking the "How Far's that then" question.
5) Some just do it for the social thing.
6) Some irritate you to the point of destruction..

Maybe theres some categories I have missed, feel free to add your own, And any stories you have too tell.

Well in clay shooting comps I like to have a laugh as we do the stands but when its time to shoot its game faces on down to business

Good question..!

Club level comps, I really enjoy AND try to get competitive.... normally doing quite well. National comps, normally spend too much time 'socialising' and my shooting suffers the next day. At BAGS this weekend, I had an awful 20 pegs followed by a good 10 pegs once i'd got my mind into gear. (actually challenging my fellow competitor for a £1 bet on who would win the next 10 pegs, to get my competitive spirit going).
I also think your shooting partners help considerably, if your fellow shooters are on the same wave length, things go well and I enjoy the sport, if not, I lose interest....

To add, I normally ask the 'how far is that' question once all shooters have taken the shot. I find it helps me learning the ranges. I've had no complaints so far.

I'm a 1 for sure but sometimes suffer from being a 4

If I go around with people who take it seriously it mucks up my head and I find I think too much meaning I tend to miss targets. One of the most memorable people I have ever shot with is Pete Dutton. A man who is a very good and serious shooter but who has had me in stitches more times than I can remember and has helped me by keeping things light and fun. So people remember its just a sport and try not to take it too seriously it will make it better for others and for yourself

It's a laugh, social and a bit of fun.

7) Some people have a "dont dare ever speak to me while I'm shooting" mentality.

I can often buy too much into other people's tension and disappointment when they miss and it ends up putting me off. (Yeah I know, stupid isnt it?).

Then there's the other side of the coin which I much prefer to be honest.
Like at LV when I miss a simple 15 yard reducer and Bones stands right behind me and yells "Doh!"

The barracking and banter is all part of the fun, but not while you're actually taking the shot. If the pegs are close together, I don't think some people realise how loud guffaws, mobile phones, or beeping Mk3s can put others off. Of course, if you're shooting well, its not such a problem, but if I make a couple of bad shots, I tend to think, "Why can't that lot shut up..!"

Well I'm a 1 most of the time, but a two sometimes.
The pinnacle for me was at the sizzler last year, I got Gary C, in the next group, waiting till I get into the prone position, then he would come out with some side splitting comment, then I spend my two minutes bobbing up and down on my stomach with laughter. The other was seeing a certain fellow kick what he thought was his own gun bag up in the air for about 25 yrds, to find out it wasn't his bag and it also had pellets inside
I'm sure everyone heard my cries of laughter as the look on this chaps face was a picture when he realised what he had done.
I like fun days like this.

If i can take the ***** and also then have the ***** taken out of me and theres plenty of banter then its been a good comp.
