I found a site a year or 2 ago that had a lot of similar stuff on it, the guy was basically experimenting with different types of projectiles and their charecteristics. One of the most amazing was a steel ball with directional vanes/scoop around the centre axis of the ball (when loaded they faced slope side toward the barrel), loaded into a special grooved barrel designed to take them. At range they wern't much but when he fired them out the other way round the damage was phenomenal at close range (the picture were more akin to firearm oenetration) The theory being that the round ball hits hard and fast and the scoops open up on impact and not only cause more damage but also cause the pellet to 'climb' the the surface of what has been shot (like a rifled bullet climbs a right hand wind and visa versa) and keep the round in the target for that vital extra few milliseconds.

Il see if can find it again later
