permission letter.

is there a standard letter to get the land owners to sign to state your permission to shoot/ hunt on their land or is it up to us to write our own?

any help would be good as have been asked to do some shooting and ferreting but land owner dont know either.

well i was planning on sending letters to al nearby farms and golfcourse etc. The more letters you send the more change you got to get permission and you don't have to go to their house and ask everyone of them.

You don't legally need it. But :

- if an incident occurs the landowner could deny that you had permission and you could up a creek without a paddle.
- if a member of the public calls out the Police you can prove your right to be there without having to worry the farmer at some unearthly hour.
- it also shows the landowner that you are being responsible, and will take liability for your actions.
- also if you later want a SGC / FAC then its easier to prove to the Police that you have need for your certificate.

Don't forget to get public liability insurance for your activities,
e.g. BASC or CA membership covers this.

A farmer (and long-time friend) whose land I shoot on, wanted a disclaimer, so that if anyone got shot, any accidents happened, or any laws were broken, he would have no liability. I don't blame him either.
It also helps to have it in writing (with map) from the land owner, just in case the police turn up.
