Hi everyone I'm new here would like some advice!!!! Just got permission to shoot in a 120 acre wood no public footpaths to worry about will be walking round it in the next week or so while waiting for B.A.S.C. membership (how long does this take I applied 2 weeks ago ) before I start shooting. How do you approach a new place that you have not been to before. Any advice gratefully received thanks in advance.

Hello. New shoot eh - well done!

I would visit a few times looking for signs of activity for whatever it is you are after - feeding/roosting/burrows/trails etc etc. Once you have established were the hotspots are then you can find suitable places to target them from or stalking routes.

Good luck with it mate and enjoy yourself. Enjoy being out in the woods and don't worry about the size of your bags

Welcome Tubeman. You've done well getting yourself a 120 acre wood! I'd spend some time (a few visits ideally) just walking round (at different times of the day if at all possible) to get a feel and see what is about. The owner, however, might expect differently and see you out and about with your gun.

Try at least to spend some time just looking and learning the lie of the land and which creatures favour which bits. This all takes quite a time really and years hence you will find yourself surprised at times. I am a long way still from getting a handle on my shoots.
