Question JSR's 400 Yard Laser Rangefinder

Has anyone tried the Range finder from JS Ramsbottom yet? Looks good. What are the advantages of buying a more expensive one?

I have had one for about a year now, seems to be accurate and I don't see the point in paying more for one that does longer ranges, 400 yards+

Only problem is that I paid more

    Cheers

    Ramsbottoms Range Finder £130

Got one today and it looks great. Unfortunately it was defective so I think it's going back for repair or replacement. On the handling side it is very good with a range from 4 yards out to 400 yards it will cover all our FT and HFT course design requirements. The major drawback is lack of magnification at 8yards out to 35 yards aquiring the target is simple from 35 out to 55 yards (our maximum) it get increasingly more awkward to hold on a knockdown to get a true range and in shaded woodland a magnification of even 4 X would turn this useful instrument into "best buy of the year". Even now at £130 it is VGV for money.

I'm sure you're joking about the 44.9 yd bit, but check against a known distance, as I borrowed a Bushnell that is at least a yard out. I'm thinking of getting one as well. Are they harder to use 'cos of the lower mag?

I have the use of a Bushnell which consistently disagrees with a surveyor's tape measure by 1 yard on all ranges from 8 to 55 yards.

yep was joking (maybe) hence the smiley but if they are out by 1 yard consistently then i can live with that as long as it is consistent

    Hi Neil
Don't think you are joking about 44.9 yds as the one last Sunday hidden under a bush was a nightmare

has anyone got the smaller one? i think its a 75 yard one.

i'm on a stupidly tight budget ATM but it'd make a useful addition to my kit

probably not - but as it was 40 degrees outside on my recent trip I had to console myself with some comfort shopping

I own a Bushnell. It consistently disagrees with a Leica by 1 yard + or - on all ranges between 200 and 500 yds.

If you cannot cope with the extra bullet drop in a yard, over such a short distance, then god help the rest of us.

The point is though, you should not use a laser rangefinder when setting out targets for competition, especially if the max allowed is 55 yards.
