    calibration

    hi all
i need my air rifles chrono,ed to be able to prove they are legal.
who needs to do this ? can anyone with a chrono do it , what proof of qualification do you need to write a certificate ?
i mean if i go to a dealer he will do it , i know , but it could be anyone operating the chrono just someone who works one day a week or whatever and who calibrates their chrony ?.
could it be done at the club i belong to or would that not carry the weight of a dealer ?

    cheers

I don't think there is any formal certification as to a rifle's performance, as things can change fairly easily. Once a springer is run in, it will be very steady, but some PCPs vary a lot with different pellets, and air temperature. Its a good idea to have regular access to a chrono, just to check from time to time, if you belong to a club, theres usually someone who will do it for you. Otherwise its a Combro for about £40.

no certification needed, buy yourself a combro at £40 and you can test away!

if you was in my area you could come round and test your gun/s on my chrono

i have a combro but i need an independent calibration for insurance purposes.
i guess it will mean going to a dealer.

Ask the insurance company what they'd accept. Are you talking about shooting insurance or theft/damage insurance?
BASC insurance doesn't ask for proof but if you were involved in an incident and it was found to be over 12 ftlb you just probably wouldn't be insured I suspect.

The only result a court would accept would be a forensic laboratory because their equipment is professionally calibrated and tested regularly........but that would be expensive.
