Magpie call - how to use?

    Hi,

Bought, amongst other things, a magpie call (at the request of myshooting partner).

It was from Uttings, but is the same as this one - http://www.chambersgunmakers.co.uk/Decoys.htm

However, it doesn't seem to make much of a call and neither of us can work out how to actually use it !! (I know I'm thick, but its got me confused !!!)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Darren.

I thought that it could be, as their call is a chaka, chaka (khan?), but I tried with a few pellets in there and it doesn't sound right. I've also tried blowing it, but it doesn't make a sound.

I could phone them tomorrow, but I forgot today, so thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of the forum .....

Just a guess, but from the picture it looks like it might have a rubber (?) bulb on the end - if so, what happens if you squeeze this?

Its a hard plastic cover that clips on. I presumed that as its a dual Jay/Magpie 'call', one of them used the cover, one didn't - but it doesn't do alot with or without it.

I've got one of those. It works if you blow through it - use your tongue like a repeated t-k-t-k-t-k inside your mouth to make short sharp bursts of air and get a kind of rough chattering noise.

I have to admit, shaking a box of matches works better....
No darling, Schopenhauer did not quite mean that.
