    Hi,

The end you want to quench down should get dark to medium cherry -red.
Use a wet rag to save the rest of the spring and your hand, than quench it down immediately 100% upright on a warm/ hot steel-plate. ( a cooking-plate works great )
You should temper it for a hour at 180°to 190° Celsius in your oven , but you should not trust the marks on the oven-knob.

    Jochen

Needless to say that the spring has to be 100% clean?

Indeed she said tie me up and do what ever you like and so I did. I tied her to the bed and went out fishing
