They do a hunting version in black, and you can get them in High Power as well. I dont see any problem hunting with an LG100 as long as you cover the shiny bits. A bit on the heavy side, but very accurate.

i had one and used it for hunting.took it to ben taylors at harston and he fitted a silencer to it .was very quiet and very good as a hunting rifle.also fitted a harris bi-pod for sniping, only down side was the weight, even with a sling fitted i still felt the weight after walking about my shoot.also a quick second shot if needed was not good,so in the end i sold it and got a rapid 17 and got ben taylor to fit a reg,now this gun is everything i could ever need.

The LG100 is a tough rifle and can take the elements. Mine is stable hot/cold - it is the scope that gives me the aggro.

As a static hunting rifle it is superb - on the right day 5 p size groups to 55 yards on the club range or better. If you can range find and dial in, there is nothiong to touch it.

Out in the field you will need a silencer - something Steyr Sportwaffen dont do.

I converted the bloop tube to take a half inch UNF silencer but it has the bayonet fix adapter so unscrewing it is actually a lot longer.

They are single shot. If you do your bit you reduce the need for a back up but if you do, then you need to be able to do so calmy and with speed. This is not easy especially when the adrenaline flows.

The single shot factor is it's weakest link as far as the rifle goes and it is not just a case of rolling a pellet into a tray with a groove in it. It is direct feed into the freindly end of the barrel. There are however, plenty of single shot rifles out there irrespective of power source.

I have used mine for much hunting and will continue to use it but it is not light and it aint quite unless you go to the aggro of getting it modded.

It is up to the job but there are rifles that fit the hunter role more comfortably.

Could never understand why Steyr produced a hunter without a blinking silencer or a multishot option (well especially the silencer as this would be childs play. A mag is a back to the drawing board issue

I would actually go for an HW100 in preferance to the steyr if I am on shanksys pony and they will be in a similar weight class and the engineering is best in class IMHO.

That said, I sold my HW100 and would never sell my Steyr. I would buy another HW100 though

The up side to this is that with a little practice you can load the gun with your eyes shut - or on a dark night. Try loading a "pellet into a tray with a groove" rifle when lamping

Indeed, whatever method of loading it is down to practice isnt it. I dont mind loading channels though. I roll it in with the thumb and index finger so I know when it is in the channel.

Biggest problem is the pellet flipping over and being pushed into the barrel the wrong way round - tends to knacker long range accuracy

I do notice that of the two systems, people seem to get on better with the channel rather than direct feed into the barrel. That is in daylight however.

    Hi

The Steyr LG100 HP is the hunter version. The LG110 HP is the latest model.

I had one for a year and p/ex'd for the AirWolf. IMO the Steyr is a superb gun but it is a pity that it hasn't got a mag.
