What is a beech gun stock blank worth?

I've just taken delivery of a stack of beech planks which have been cut into various thicknesses and sizes suitable for gun stocks. They are currently stacked (with spacers) in a cool place to dry out further...

So - I was wondering if anyone here has bought a beech stock blank recently, and could therefore tell me what they paid for it? Mine won't be ready for some time, but it would be good to know for future reference!

    Arrow

Don't know the answer but would suspect not a lot. I think that if any member was going to the trouble of making his own stock that he would use walnut which is better in every way. Beech is only used for cheapness.

I'd have thought that some people might want to use timbers other than walnut - I have a very nice Daystate with a stock made from maple, for instance...

Why did you bother with beech Paddy? Walnut or maple yes but beech is boring, isn't it?

I have a mate who had some short lengths of beech that he wanted to trade for something of mine - simple as that. If he'd had walnut, yew, oak, elm or anything else, I'd have considered that instead. As it was, he had beech...

Just a thought Paddy, make sure the ground under the wood is level
otherwise the wood will dry twisted.

please let me know when it's ready

    Hi Allan,
I wondered whether you'd see this thread!

The beech is currently stacked on a level concrete floor in a cool place, so hopefully shouldn't twist.
