Diopter sights - How they are used

Could someone tell me how a diopter sight is used please, and any benefits or drawbacks from a hunting point of view - thanks

They offer a poor field of vision and are usually set up for a certain target type. They rely on the hole at the back being so small that you can only see the fore sight which is usually a thin metal circle that exactly frames the black area of the target.
Break your backs and crack your oars men! If you wish to prevail.

As far as I know they're for target shooting only. I can't imagine anybody using them for hunting. As far as I can remember from when I've used one in the dim and distant past, it would be extremely hard to sight in on your quarry, it's just not what they're made for.

The diopter is much smaller than the pupil in your eye and will severely restrict your vision in anything other than bright conditions.

forget them for hunting, they rely on a black circle as a target that matches the sights in size.

They will work for static hunting but you need to remove the eyepiece and look through the bigger aperture remaining.
Depends on your eyesight as to how far you can hit what your aiming at.
Usedto shoot wioth diopters between 300 and 1000 yards.A scope is easier on the eye though !
Need more than 12 ftb , perhaps 3,700 ftb.

10 meter match rifles - excellent. Essentially relies on the humans brain to centre a circle within a circle - a skill we are very good at.

It's when you try and hold it that the cracks appear.

For hunting on an air rifle legal limit or FAC - forget it.

Target is difficult to acquire and will take you so long to get the centre thing sorted that if the quarry is still in your sights, it has probably died of old age already.
