Question Its great!!! but err... how does it work?

just got my new scope - jsr 6-24x50AO its one of these new fangled paralaxativewatchamicallit jobbies , bolted it to my rifle the other day, not zeroed yet (not enough time in the day ) but i was wondering how you actually use the paralax bit? i know its for range finding, but what mag will it read of the correct distance? i'll zero the scope at 30yrds and probably use 10x for HFT and adjust as necessary for hunting.

anyone able to help this confused bloke??

Probably at no setting at all. Almost all scopes have fantasy range markings on the adjustable objective (AO). To rangefind put it on the highest mag and twiddle until in focus - do so at known ranges first and then put a bit of tape on the scope and mark the ranges on yourself. Everyones eyes are different but most scope makers must have weird eyes. Theres a nice article here about setting up a high mag scope.

TO check pa i use a cereal box put the box at measured ranges with your mag on full, turn the pa ring until the sight picture is as clear as poss, then mark the range on the pa ring then practice practice and more practice,
