What colour stain on AA beach stocks

I'm in the process of striping a beach stock (varnish) and wondered if anyone new what colour the stain was that air arms put on there beach stocks.
Also is tru-oil ok for fininshing a beach stock,
any ideas also as to what type of finish you recomend for a beach stock.

I done the same to one of my stocks.
I stripped it completely , gave it a good rub down so the wood was nice and clean.

I then used Colron liquid wax from homebase, rubbed in with fine wirewool.
It turned out quite nice and showed the grain up nice.
Plus now I find it easy to repair if I scratch it while out hunting.

A few people have have said how nice it looks for a beech stock.

    Stain.

I did my right hand beech stock for an Air Arms S300, with an Amarican Walnut Stain. A Coloron Wood Dye, bought from B&Q. Put the last of FIVE coats on with very fine wire wool. Once dry I oiled it with Danish Oil to match. Wish I'd kept it now because it really looked like American Walnut with an Oil finnish. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_frown.gif" alt="Frown" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

With beech (as opposed to walnut), I would recommend a stain first. then the oil coatings.
Beech, if unstained, has alot of blonde/yellow hues that will come through.

Look towards walnut/red brown dyes (oil based dye or you will have mucho problemo when you put oil on).
Also, look for a grain sealer to use pre staining, it will 1/4 the time to oil the stock.

Have a look here, they do gun stains and tru oil.

I was once told that aniline dyes work best on beech ( aniline dyes are used a lot in the leather industry). RB

I think the TX is Beech with a Walnut Stain. I've just about finished carving a knee rest for my TX. Not sure if the Liberon or Linseed will be the best match. I'll try both on a piece of scrap and let you know.

I cheated with my Titan, I used Nitromors and a used toothbrush on the stuborn bits. If you use it make sure you wash the area thoroughly.

What grit did you start with? I start as low as 60 grit and move upto 1200 grit. Would have gone upto 2000 grit if anything higher than 1200 grit was available. There is no indication of any original dye. It's a Weihrauch stock, though.

I was using 1200 grit <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_eek.gif" alt="Eek" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> but after lots of sanding and not much stain been removed went and got some 180, 220, then 600 the stock came up nicely and have since stained it and now in the process of oiling it <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

Here's a site i found very handy for anyone thinking of working on a stock.
