    Buying an air rifle for a 5'2'' girl (advice needed!)

    Me and my girlfriend are hoping to join an air rifle club soon, and I'm planning on kitting myself out with a new rifle (tx200 <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->), but she hasn't got a rifle.

    I'm planning on buying a new gun for her, but don't really want to give her a rifle thats really really pants when compared to a tx200.

    Any suggestions- something new, fairly small and light but spring powered and still accurate.

    Thanks

    To be honest I'd join a club first. Let her try a few rifles to see what she's happy shooting before spending any money. It's easy to recommend what we'd want to shoot - far better to let the potential shooter decide for themselves.

    Rifle

    My wife's 50 year's of age, 5ft 4.5 inches in height and I'd NEVER DARE to buy her an 'OUTDATED!' spring air rifle. So I bought her an Air Arms S200T .177. Oft times she goes out hunting with her friends from the Hospital, for that she uses my BSA Spifire HF .22. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    The S200T can either be used with Diopter sights for 10 metre or with a Tasco 8 - 40 x 56 Custom Shop FT scope for FT. The Spitfire's fitted with the LONGEST scope that will comfortably fit, without impeeding the barrel, its an Optimate 6 - 24 x 42. Believe you me, she DOES NOT MISS with that rifle & scope combo. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    PS. She's no heavy weight either, the wife that is. Having to use the Stirrup Pump ALSO aids in keeping her weight DOWN!. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    With a Springer (must be .177 though, unless she thinks she can handle a .22 <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->) How about a AA Prosport or a cheaper equivalent. I have just noticed one in the For Sale section.

    Some more info- Shes been shooting my old air rifles for years so her learning is no problem, second I'm really looking for a spring powered.

    Anything you lot recommend a bit cheaper than air arms? <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Mind you a spitfire or s200 would be quite cool...

    She needs a Feinwerkbau Sport. I've got one, I just don't know if I could let it go. I'll think about it over the weekend. Price £160 inc. arrestor block.

    This rifle is ideal for the smaller shooter, easy to cock, very powerful and darn accurate.

    How about a Webley Xocet, Stingray, Longbow or HW95k.
    I just recieved my 95k today from DJP and ive nrver shot so well even with a Logun mkII (or maybe ive just got a better shot) It should be about perfect fit for somone around 5'4" + but should be ok for 5'2" person. It's alot harder to cock than my old Vulcan and hass alot of recoil aswell as being alot louder. The balance is a bit front heavy with the muzzle brake but i don't know how to get that off and if it will accept a silencer.
    As always its best to try before you buy if not then at least get to hold it.

    I'm thinking now about a BSA spitfire- What's everyones opinion? good for the smaller shooter?

    BSA spitfires are quite heavy. If your thinking spring gun a Webley Xocet or HW95 would be good choices. My 10 yr old lad quite comfortably cocks, loads and shoots an Xocet .177. Competes in HFT's with it too. PCP wise S200 has got to be one of the top choices for a smaller shooter. Very accurate but you do have the extra cost of bottle or pump.

    The Spitfire for your information weighs in at a mere 6.6 lbs while the AA S200 @ 6.2 lbs. Owning the spit and having a day with the s200, I'm giving my spit to my wife as opposed to the AA. It's by far the most accurate and harder hitting & you'll also save £70.00'ish. Hope this helps. Dave.

    I know you are after a springer, but I have to sasy that the S200 is a cracking gun. My Mrs uses one, and a couple of Sundays ago she outshot me on a 30 target FT shoot, and I was using nearly 2 grands worth of Feinwerkbau and optics.
    (My excuse is that I hadn't got my range adjustment chart sorted!)

    Whatever, she has only been shooting for a couple of months, shoots left handed despite being right handed due to being left eye dominant, and does bl00dy well with it.

    Two main factors

    Really here mate you have 2 factors to think
    about maybe 3...

    1st Weight = weight can be a prob at first
    but when she starts using the 'lighter'
    gun her muscle develop rapidly...
    If it is too heavy it may put her
    off shooting...

    2nd length: Maybe not a problem here with the
    size of the girl in mind.
    See if the cheekpiece comes up to
    her face comefortably.
    See if the trigger meets her hand
    Perfectly...

    3rd May not be a problem but when shes
    had a month with the gun she will
    HOOKED... <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Spitfire

    I reckon the spitfires looking good- I'll have to take her to a shop to make sure, rather than just ordering on online though.

    Whats the cheapest way of filling a PCP?? JSR have a rws pump for £100
