50/50 standing and kneeling.
Wil lie down for a very long shot though if the occasion rises.

It depends what I am hunting, I sometimes use the lechering position, it never works though

Following on from a post by Spudgun with reference to shooting standing "like a _real hunter_ would," i thought i'd post this poll to see what everyone does.

What's your most favoured stance under normal hunting conditions? i.e. taking into account things you'd normally encounter whilst hunting. Mine's kneeling as a rule unless it's a long shot in which case i'd opt for prone where possible. I only stand as a last resort or if it's a close shot. [/quote]

Each situation is unique, but I always try to have a rest for the rifle (fence post, tree limb, bipod, whatever) Rice paddy prone wasn't even mentioned in the poll positions but I've used that many a time in the past. The sign of a good hunter is the ability to adapt to the environment and situational awareness.

Prone, -- lying on top of a well padded female for preference.
It's finding one that will keep still long enough to get the shot off that's the problem -- -- GH

Leaning against anything supportive, gun on ground, one hand in pocket and the other aiding me in detecting wind direction by holding a cigarette.

Sid,
After watching comments on this BBS for some time I figured you would know this position. I read some of your UK brothers statements, and I believe the expression is, "This is a randy bunch."
Actually RPP is more of a squatting position. It was used to quickly return fire in the middle of a rice paddy during the recent southeast asia war games. (We lost by default)
I use it still occasionally out at the farm but it shouldn't be used if there is cactus behind you, or you're wearing spurs on your boots, especialy the ones with those big mean Mexican rowls on them. You find yourself jumping up real fast, yelling all sorts of things, and scaring the bejeesus out of the local wildlife.
Hope this is helpful.

Whenever the chance will allow I'll go for a prone shot. If not I try for a resting place (post, tree banking etc) to shoot from. Don't do much free-standing shooting if I can avoid it.

I'd be more worried about sitting on a rattlesnake. That reminds me of the scene in the movie "City Slickers" where one character goes behind a rock to answer natures call and gets bitten. When he starts yelling for help and for someone to suck out the poison, he's told- "You're gonna die" RB

If its rattlesnakes you want the Swee****er Rattlesnake Roundup is the place to go. For you UK guys, we don't shoot them, we catch them and toss them in a burlap sack.
