How long can a springer be left cocked for?

just wondered how long is the max that a spring gun can be cocked for before it will damage the spring?

i.e is 20 minutes ok if lamping?

    Hello, welcome to the BBS.

20 minutes, or even 2 hours, is no problem at all. I regularly did it with my oldest spring rifle which I used for all my hunting at one time; it still has the spring I had put in it 19 years ago and it still performs at over 11 ft lb.

As an addendum, most spring damage is caused by badly-fitting spring guides, incorrect lubrication, or dry-firing.

    Hi Frogbad
It seems that someone has done some tests on the subject.
You can find the results of the test Here

Fair enough Ora, but there is a bit of a difference between leaving a rifle cocked during a stalk and leaving it cocked for weeks at a time.

    Anyway, look here: BBS thread

Baz carries more credibility round here than some Yank jacking off to a spreadsheet.
