    PCP Safety

    I have just read about the Chinese copied PCP's. In one of the reponses, its states that the cylinder could possible blow up. Having just bought my first PCP, I wasnt aware that there were any dangers attached to using this type of gun.

    Have there been incidents of cylinders blowing up?. I have an HW 100, so would assume that the relevant tests have been done, is this a sound assumption?.

    NB. Great Board, luv the banter.

    Not sure of the material used in airgun cylinder manufacture. But with modern gun cylinder technology I wouldn't think they would blow up, leak, rupture, but not blow up.

    My Titan is about 10 year old, no prob's yet <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Get a PCP, dont have to waste effort cocking it every time. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Me too.

    It is a PCP. Tried cocking it 6 times, and nothing. Pulled REALLY hard and got some air in at last (though I didn't know it at the time). Moving the dangerous end to an old book to shoot it into (to test), and finger slipped off trigger guard. Missed foot but now have hole in kitchen flooring.... Duh.

    You still have to cock it mate to put a round in the spout. I need a semi-auto cos I'm lazy <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    I never realised how delicate trigger mechanisms were actually. If you load my rifle and give the butt a tap on the floor the trigger lets go, if the muzzles pointing upwards at your face then you are knackered.

    Its the same on any rifle I've tried. The SA80 only needs a gentle tap with the butt to send the trigger off, and a 5.56 round through the head or foot will sting a bit <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Yeh "sting". Not one of the words that came to my mind. Hospital, broken, and bones maybe. But I see where you're coming from.

    Doh. Sorry, thought that you meant cocking to be 'break barrel' or something like that.

    Ignorance is a beautiful thing. Especially when you are a newbie <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    God i love these PCP's make a mockery of my old Webley Vulcan Deluxe i had when a kid.

    So, no-one heard of any explosions then?.

    The closest you'll come to a hospital with a 5.56 round in your head is when you pass it on your way to the morgue. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Try taking a new stealth cylinder over the recommended pressure. It has a burst valve.

    You would have to try quite hard to get a decent explosion really these days, unless you are really dumb and like playing around with stuff you have no idea about. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    I.M.O. the trigger pull weight (or a worn sear) is set too low <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_eek.gif" alt="Eek" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->. Personally I would get this sorted immediately to prevent an accident.

    Too right, that needs sorting out before the gun chambers another pellet.

    Go to any armoury Sid and pick out an SA80. Cock it and tap the butt on the floor, 9 out of 10 it will fire. It needs a firm 'tap' but not a slam. This is a well known thing.

    My stealth needs an even firmer tap but it does it all the same.

    Maybe its the way its 'tapped' on the floor with the muzzle skywards, I don't know. I have dropped my stealth horizontaly by accident and it never went off. Never dropped an SA80 though - the beasting would have been too much <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->
