I'd have to say "The Guy" and that none of the rest really matter. For sure, they play a part but there are some shooters who just seem to be able to pick up ANY gun/scope/pellet combination and hit what they aim at.
What I'm gradually learning is that it's a "state of mind" thing. Getting the gun exactly as you want it is part of that state of mind. Confidence in the gear is a large part of being relaxed enough to hit what you aim at.
If it were as simple as barrel, scope, pellet, stock then there'd be only one solution to the problem and we'd all be using identical gear...

Having competed in FT for a couple of years now I don’t think its quite as simple as going out and buying the same kit as the current BFTA champion – if it were then life would be very simple, and there probably would not be so many different rifles used for FT.
To my mind doing well requires you to have 100% confidence in both your ability, and your kit, and to get out there in all weathers and practice . I know that having a stock which fits made a huge difference to my FT, but then that’s a passion of mine!
Being a C grade FT’er with a Pro Target does not mean that buying a Ripley or Steyr or Anschutz or Feinwerkbau or AA PT Evo 2 will automatically improve your scores and make you an AA grade competitor. The same being true for changing your 8 – 40 × 50 Custom Shop scope to a Big Deben or Leupold scope.
That’s my 2p’s worth. What do others think?
I think it helps if you have confidence in your kit. To do this, you need to do some homework:
1. pellet compatability: shoot groups using the rifle benchrested with various brands of pellets (ideally on an indoor range) to find the best pellet for your rifle. If there are several good pellets, select the one that has the flattest trajectory. The usual candidates are accupels, aa fields, bisley magnums, daystate ft, h&n ftt, crosman premier, ...
2. consistent velocity: with the chosen pellet, chrono your rifle over a complete charge and pick a fill pressure that gives you the most number of consistent velocity shots (usually within 15 fps)
3. group sizes: using a benchrest check the group sizes of your rifle and chosen pellet at 55 yards (indoor or windfree day) are they good enough? does cleaning the barrel make a difference? what about pellet lube?
4. rangefinding: test your scope's rangefinding ability for all FT distances 8 to 55 yards, re-do your scope distance markings if necessary
5. scope mounting: use a spirit level and plumb line to ensure your scope is mounted correctly
6. scope clicks: if you are going to be dialing for distances, test your scope's elevation turret for reliability and repeatability by adjusting the clicks up and down while shooting benchrested
7. shoot benchrested groups from 8 yards to 55 yards and note down the number of clicks required or which mildot to use. Jot down the trajectory details on a notepad.
Once you have confidence in your kit, put the benchrest aside and get in loads of practice! <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:

Watching you thrash me and Sam while using the wrong turret cap on your springer was a revelation!
Also your advice on where I was going wrong with the Rip made a ten shot difference to my scores when I went round with the "last of the summer wine crew" yesterday.

Had a go with a Steyr LG 100 today Paul. Not the one for sale but almost Identical.
The left hand one of the two spuggy's @35, one pell' down one pell' re-set.
Took me 3 pell's to reset with my .22 TX.
Maybe a Steyr isn't a magic wand Paul, but some guns seem to have a little more magic than others.

Are you going to at the club at the weekend Ray? I'll bring the Rip and you can try the same test with that. The results'll probably be the same...
I'll also be bringing the Airmasters 77K so you can try a "like for like" comparison with a tuned springer.
I'll also try with your TX (if you'll let me) - and it'll probably take me a lot more than three pellets to reset the left-hand spuggy.

I think what I'm trying to say is that it depends on the person's state of mind not the gun. I KNOW I can hit that target with the Rip or the Airmasters (coz I've done it so often). I DON'T KNOW that I can hit it with your TX, so I'll probably miss it.
In all honesty - when you picked up the Steyr (and was it Hotshots?) had you already convinced yourself that you'd hit it simply because you were using a gun with a reputation for being difficult to miss with?
