Best pellet to use in any gun, IMO, is one that's going to hit what you're aiming at. To ascertain which pellet that is going to do that on a consistent basis, you need to do a bit of paper punching at your preferred range, and with a range of pellets that you think may suit your gun.

Posting a question like this on the board is like asking how long is a piece of string. If 10 people bother to reply, chances are that you will get 10 different answers.

In the end you need to work out for yourself what suits you and your gun and shooting style. The only way to do that is to get out there and shoot.

To keep the cost down, and to avoid buying tins of pellets that you subsequently find to be useless, you could do a lot worse than start off with a packet of pellpax. These give you 10 pellets from a whole range of makers, together with targets to test them on. It's then a relatively straightforward task to see which gives you the best group (ie best consistency).

Should narrow the choice down a bit. Also, when you are confident that your gun and pellet combo are up to delivering the goods, it leaves you free to concentrate on the more difficult parts of stalking/hunting.

    Thanks again

    Alec,
    I recently tested the following pellets in my BSAs10 .177 & AAs410 .22;
    1)Acupells, 2)Lazapells, 3)H&N FT&T, & 4)Exterminators.
In both calibres the pellets grouped better in the above order. I was very surprised that the Exterminators where the worst grouping as they are the most expensive. But most people will tell you that every rifle is different and it's upto you what pellet best suits your gun, but I find Acupells give the best grouping at the range & do the job on bunnies too. All I can say is try the test in your rifle but allow alot more than 10 of each pellet brand through your gun before shooting at the target. I shot 40 of each before testing 10 shot groups to lead, (or tin in the case of the Exterminators), the barrel.
    HTH,
    Dave.
p.s. All tests were at 35yds with a slight breeze and all grouped within 1" and the barrel was cleaned after each test.

Would suggest trying AA Field and Accupells - both excellent pellets, see what's most accurate <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Dave ,
If you are shooting Tin there Dynamics.
SuperTen you need 4.50 Head Size. 7.9 Grains

If Lead , but Dynamic Shaped they are Exterminators 9.50 Grains.

Funny how John Bowkett , strongly recommends them and uses them himself ( Exterminators ).
Especially for guns he personally tunes.

Also used by Tony DeCross who is current using them in his Superten to win Competitions.

But as stated many times before , no two guns even the same make and model , will give you the same results.

I was going to mention the dynamic thing as well.

THe actual lead exterminators went extremely well in my S410 classic .22 producing better groupings than both AA hunter, H&N FTT and Lazapell.

One thing I wanted to know is do exterminators go better lubricated or doesn't it make any difference ?

    BOB/R,
Your right, I was getting confused with the Dynamics when refering to tinning the barrel. They where a recent test which when compared to Exterminators were very comparable. I'll next be trying AA fields but not sure which size, 5.51 or 5.52. Any info would be most welcome.

Bob, If I was to put a whole tin of Ex's through the rifle would this encourage better groupings?

p.s. The trail packet you sent me 9 of the 52 received had deformed skirts. Just a 1 off I presume?
    Rgds,
    Dave.

    Max,
Like Dynamics , they work better in a Dry Clean Action and Barrel.

Part of the production , they do get a very fine film of oil which many finds works well enough.

Pellet lubes atract dust etc , which Can obstruction the rifling.
The Shape & Design of Exterminators and Dynamics needs a good clean Rifling.
    For Speed and accuracy.

Max's above post proves that every rifle is different. I got totally the opposite groups in my AAs410 than he did.

    Alec,
Re rifle , I know several people that shoot Supertens, that can out shoot many a Rapid owner.

I have a Rapid , but personally can shoot better with a Air Arms 400.

It's down to what you get used of.
