    Dovetail blanks...

Does anyone know where to get some dovetail blanks.

I can see that you can get them at Brownells in the US.

But they seem to be 3/8 inch nominal...
Would this be likely to work with scope mounts designed for a 11mm dovetail?

I think 3/8's is approx 9.5mm, I realise there is a bit of adjustment in scope mounts....but would this be too much?

Maybee they call it 3/8 nominal because 44/100ths would look silly

Attempting to solve a trick scope mounting problem, without resort to a machine shop!

    Thanks
    Pete

There's the BSA MaxiGrip rail, but the whole setup may be too complicated for what you want, and they're 13mm wide, I think.

    Unfortunately not.
What I need is the shaped piece of metal that I can put ontop of the rifle, to create a dovetail where there isn't one at the moment. A common issue with rifles, but not usually air rifles.....UNLESS you are making a bullpup and need to mount the scope significantly forward of where it was designed to be!

    Thanks for trying anyway.

    I know what you mean.
Unfortunately there is no standard cut for a dovetail, no two manufactures are the same even in Germany. A properly cut rail like the later AR5 Ripley are to suit Sportsmatch mounts, so if slapping on B Square it will induce crossover and vice versa.
Not only are the depths totally different, the widths vary a lot also at less than 9mm and more than 13mm!
Just need the top dovetail of these:-

Weaver types and Picatinny are available off the shelf but the mounts may be expensive or hard to get hold of.

How about buying a "Weaver" or "Picatinny" rail?

I know it's not the same as the "standard" 9 or 11mm as found on air rifles, but it is a good system, is of a standard size and you can get lots of different mounts to fit.

You can buy various different lengths from a number of sellers on abey...

Pete's set himself some sort of challenge to build this beast as cheaply as possible

I'm starting to wonder how long it'll be before he starts to change his mind about not using Weaver rails because of the cost of the mounts

Of course - he could always try sweet-talking Jon (hareng) into making him something

Make sure you hands well clear, I'll bight your fingers!!

If it's 11mm dovetail or as close as makes no difference, then I'm as interested as a very interested thing who is very interested.

    I shall PM you henceforth!!

Probably worth giving Dave Welham of Airmasters 88 a call. (01442-266831)

He makes a dovetail bridge for the Anschutz 2002 that may be suitable. Have a feeling i saw a long length of plain dovetail last time i was there.
