It's very good, well balanced very fast action on it.

When asking at the Air-Arms stand when it would be available I was told maybe in the new year to which I replied is that a definately maybe or just a maybe? Which didn't provoke a good response from the guy I talked to.

My feeling is that it is unlikely to see the light of day.
If you look at the market, they can't produce the 400 series fast enough to meet demand and they have introduced the 'Custom Shop' element to their range via Nick Jenkinson. Why go to the expense of tooling up to produce a gun for such a tiny fraction of the market share? JUST my humble opinion though.

If F/T were to become an Olympic discipline, the market potential would be huge.

JDP you have hit the nail one the head mate - simple economics at the end of the day

I remember getting a royal slating last year for saying that this rifle would never see the light of day - and I love being right.

The rumours - all the prototypes have been sold off, they couldnt get the rifle to group past thiry yards etc. I believe they are going down the 400 ft route (and I am there first;-) due to the fact they can use an FAC tube and a reg to bring it up to acceptable shot capacity levels - just add another stock and you have a cracker of a rifle.

    Any other opinions?

Yep bring back the Pro Target action in a sporter form or do the Custom route they have just launched: buy a bog standard 400 and add a pukka NJ trigger unit, a Protarget reg, a Paul Wilson stock etc....Bingo superb rifle!!

    eer, have you been peeking??

You don't need a reg on a 400 - just another element to go wrong - the standard trigger unit can be 'improved' to very near match quality - and mine is in a PW ft stock - and it shoots as well as any of the (many) other Ft rifles I have owned e.g. ripper, Dommie, Steyr...

P.S. Although I wouldnt mind trying to get a pro-target trigger unit fitted to it ......

    Hello Ter
We have all been waiting a long time for EV2. But the real question is "is it worth waiting for?". The predecessors to the EV2 are all very good rifles, which I think, would be very hard to improve upon.

In recent years we have seen the like of Anschutz, Feinwerkbau, Steyr and Walther trying their hand at making FT rifles. Some of these have been more successful than others, but none of them are "better" than the Pro Target, or the Ripley. By "better" I mean that using one guarantees instant success in FT.

At the end of the day success in FT is dependent upon you having 100% faith in the abilities of yourself, your rifle, and your scope. Ask the top guys how much they practice and then you will begin to understand how committed they are to doing well in their sport.

The results of this years Top Scot Competition (best results from 7 FT competitions) makes for interesting reading:

    1st Pro Target
    2nd Pro Target
    3rd Pro Target
    4th Steyr
    5th Pro Target
    6th Pro Target
    7th Ripley AR5s
    8th Pro Target
    9th Airstream
    10th Steyr

For a rifle about to be superseded it looks to be doing quite well.

Next time we meet remind me to give you shot of that old superseded rifle of mine <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

Oh, I forgot to add - I am pretty sure that ALL spares for the ProT are to be discontinued soon, which should make everyones life a whole lot happier!!! I think they are just trying to bury it, not cherish it!!

Not good news! What are AA playing at? Surely the market is big enough to justify production.

I was asking about the EV2 after going along to a FT competition at the Tayside club and "having a go". It seems like an ideal excuse to get away from the wife and kid for a few hours on a Sunday!
Since then I've bought a few knockdown targets and been practicing a great deal. However, the .22 410K and 4-14X50 pro-stalk are not really going to be competitive.

I assumed the EV2 would be about the best after the success of the Pro Target. I may have to look at others now.

    Cheers,
    TER...

P.S. Chris, I'll take you up on the shot of that antique of yours <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

Please do remember that these are just thoughts on the EV2, it could well go into production early next year, but I just can't see it myself. Best bet is to conatct Air Arms direct and see if they will give you a date or even let you place an order.
    Chris..
Couldn't agree with you more, at the end of the day it's as much about your belief in your abilities and your kit that will advance your shooting. With my rig if I miss I know it was me and not the kit.
    LeeH..
No more spares????? How worrying is that!!! I knew I should have picked up that RN10 block Rob had for sale at MGF.

At Weston Park Air Arms claimed the EV2 will be available by January 2004. When i said I had heard that they had been scrapped they were firm that it will be available next year.
They also said that the prototype semi recoiless break barrel is unlikely to go into production at this time, because they simply do not have the capacity to manufacture the bits. I guess if they can gey someone to do it for them, like the s200 we may see it actually released, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
    Time will tell <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

I think AA have probably missed the boat now anyway. Many potential buyers gave up and joined the Steyr/Walther/FWB/Anschutz brigade despite their wish to remain loyal and who could blame them? Now they have these alternatives they aren't go to rush out and buy the EV2 even if it were to suddenly become available. They've now got rifles that shoot just as well (or better?) and will stick with them I guess.
Looks like AA have missed their chance to get their rifle into the hands of the top shooters but if the demand for the S400/410 is more than they can meet maybe they can do without the kudos of producing a top level FT rifle.
