I've had the same problem recently - don't panic mate, I'm sure it will sort itself out eventually!

Dear all....I need to know if it's just my PC or other problems - most times I now get "Page not found" when I try to log on to the BBS - anyone else have the same problem?
Many thanks, TonyB

If this happens try clicking on "detect network settings" highlighted in red on the page - it SOMETIMES helps!

I am getting this too, only at home though. I downgraded my internet connection to 150k/sec recently, it has been happening since then, although it also coincided with Nachi and that other virus choking the net with traffic too....
I don't have any problem getting on at work, but our connection here is very fast. I hope it gets sorted soon.

You guys are experiencing problems that others are not. What differentiates you from the rest?
Modem/Cable/ADSL?
Using NTL/Other?
What sort of firewall and AV program?
Just trying to help.......

I'm on NTL with a cable modem at 150k/sec.
No firewall, scan for viruses, spybots etc once a week or so, nothing that I know of at the moment...

I have a crap connection but have no trouble getting on any time of day, i think it could be the fact that i have bbs bookmarked in "my favourites". Its just a thought but could be worth a try
Thanks Rob, when the other two post theirs everyone will be able to see a common link (I hope). And there starts the solution...

This could all be a wind up? Sorry, the cynic in me... Why? Well look at this:
TonyB, IT Project Manager
Rob M, Computer Engineer
With queries on connecting to the BBS
Andy Ibbo (ans-ltd), IT Engineering Consultant
Who's patience has him accomodating a less than 100% service. And this is a seriously intelligent bloke.....
My cynicism started when I posted a reply to 'whale oil beef hooked, Da(ta) Management' about a f*cked scanner. Which as it turned out, was genuine.
Maybe I'm being a tw@t, (quiet please). Or maybe I've forgotten my times in full time IT support, when you knew NO-ONE could know everything so you were always asking around for help.

I'm on NTL cable 500Mbps with router / firewall.
Speed test indicated 575Mbps.
Andy
Yup, I am a computer engineer! Thing is though, I work exclusively on PCs that get to the net via a network, and know next to nothing about how the internet works and modems/broadband and stuff.
Seriously, any help is appreciated, I will probably learn something!
Cheers
Rob M
It's something with the BBS itself.
I'm on fast connection which works with other sites.
On here, it's quite often okay but sometimes gets timed out, more often when posting.
Maybe there's a limit on the number of connections???
< Just amending a typo - seems fast now!! >
So 2 out 3 with NTL and cable modem.....
Can't do anything at the moment as I'm at work wasting time on a customers computer while he has his dinner.....
What I can tell you is the only Internet Cafe I know that had NTL, removed it because of connection problems....

There are some wind-up merchants on this board, but you can usually tell who they are because they give their location as ‘Wales’.
Take it easy, man!! Don't get wound-up about the wind-ups until they have your name on 'em.
Rob M has explained his situation, lack of internet knowledge. As for TonyB, in my experience I wouldn’t expect an IT Project Manager to know much about computers.
This thread says that the admins are looking at the problem.
This BBS starts up in the original format or the new one, seemingly at random. I often wonder how they do that!??

I'm a bit hyper due to being caught by the 'can't find any response to "gullible" with a Google search'... Well guess who rushed in with 'Works for me.' (Duh).
Myself along with a number of others, find the BBS slow at times, and to a lesser or greater degree this can be put down to local server access. But localised failure to get access suggests something else.
The ONLY time I ever get 'page' errors is when I have my firewall volume control turned up too high. (Assuming the site I'm trying to access exists of course and is functioning).
The flavour of the responses so far suggest an issue with NTL. When bandwith is low, ISP's will throttle the service they provide. Usually they offer a 'max' bandwith but do not guarantee the 'max' due to the nature of the product. Unlike ISDN.
I'm no expert either. Just spent a few (ha) years at the end of a phone talking to people who know even less than me.
All time favourite call went like this;
Geoffrey: "Now just press the space-bar once"
Customer: "Which ones the space-bar?"
As he was in Glasgow, there is a faint chance he didn't hear my swearing AFTER I put him 'on hold'. This bloke had been left in charge of an Internet Cafe. Honest!
