grey squirrels

Hi al,
May be a stupid question bur is it leagal to shoot those grey furry things if they'er in our garden or is there any law that say's i can't.
They have eaten the nut's i have put down for other wild life that i like to watch all the sun flower seed's that we had drying they have eaten they eat new shoots and apples on our apple tree they even eat the dafodill bulbs my mrs buried in the garden. Now i just want to feed em some lead lol.

If they are on your property it's tresspass. If they are nibbling your nuts it is a more serious offense and you are allowed to disturb them by yelling things such as "Go away" or "begone you pesky critters".
If such stern warnings fail you should call your local police station and warn them that you are under attack by squirrels. They will probably send an ARV round. Taking the law into your own hands can never be condoned.

Its completley legal as long as you own the land its shot on and you dont cause a danger or nuisance to the public and yer pellets dont leave yer boundarys and the usual common sense applies, though some police vary and "bend" things a little so you have to be careful. especialy when there are so called experts who think they know better and decide they dont like it (yes i have bitter personal experiece in this )

Been dealing with the same problem with the "Permanent" solution for some time now .

It pays to take sensible precautions like not shooting the blighters when the neighbours are tending their gardens and using something fairly quiet.

Perfectly legal as other have said. Apart from not doig it when the neighbours are in the garden it is also a good idea to pick them off where they are not overlooked by the neighbours either! "Ah, mummy, look at that lovely squirrel! Mummy? Mummy? bwah wah hah"

Grey squirrels are a real nuisance in the garden, apart from digging up the bulbs like you already said they also destroy trees by eating the bark, if they eat the bark all round a tree(ring barking) the tree will die. The Grey Squirrel is not native to the UK having been introduced from the good old USA some time in the 1800s.
Grey Squirrel are vermin and should be destroyed when ever possible, I'm not sure if i'm correct here but I beleive landowners have a legal responsibility to control vermin on their property, this being the case not only is it legal for you to shoot the squirrels its your duty to do so.
Grey squirrels carry many of the same diseases as Rats, most nasty of which is Leptosperosis(weils).
Once dead handle as you would Rats, ie use gloves or tongs.

Just reread this Jason..I must get my eyes tested again...at first I though you said handle rats while wearing gloves and wearing a thong!!!!

T-Hire, what ever you do.....don't place the squirrel's in your thong, this is definately not advised and may well result in the squirrels eating your nuts.
