    Tasco Custom Shop Mods

I have a Custom Shop 8-40x56. Can anyone advise on the following modifications:

    1. The turrets are scaled in "clicks" which drives me nutz. Can I get replacement turret sleeves scaled in proper "minutes of angle"?

    2. I want to re-parallax the scope for long range. How can I loosen the objective lock-ring? It appears to be well loctited. (Unlike the turret knobs which were loose on delivery!)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Now I'm confused...

The turrets usually have short lines for each click and a longer line for each MOA (every 4 short lines since this scope is 4 clicks per MOA).

The tasco custom shop scopes that I have seen all have a sidewheel parallax adjustment.

On my scope the turret sleeves have short lines for each 5 clicks and longer lines, numbered 0, 10, 20, etc. for each 10 clicks. The scope is indeed 4 clicks per MOA.

The scope has the normal sidewheel parallax. However, as it has been factory-set for airgun use, it will not adjust to the distance I want to use it at, namely 1000 yards!

So whats stopping the parallax wheel from turning to the 'infinity' setting?

Weeell, I can turn the parallax knob to the position marked as "infinity" - but not beyond <bg>

However I would guesstimate that this focuses about 500m away. Perhaps this equates to infinity in Japan, but not where I shoot.

Okay, I understand now - good ToyStory reference there too <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->. Do you reckon its really been tweaked for airgun ranges? If so, that would mean the minimum parallax setting won't match the distance printed on the sidewheel too, init? Can you confirm that?

I am unable to confirm that right now.

Me thinks your talking cobblers. I can focus in on the moon with mine and it's not even on infinity at that.

You probably won't believe this but one night after a session on the pop, I was walking home and was mesmerised by the sight of Mars (it was at it's closest and was a clear night).

I went in the house and got my old ripley out (with my old custom shop on) and set the mag on lowest (10x) to find it and naturally put the parallax on infinity.

Mars was just the size of a pinhead on the scope picture. I upped the mag to 50x and the planet got no larger. I thought to twiddle the sidewheel a bit. The strangest thing happened: not only did mars become clearer it also became larger in the scope, almost filling the image area. Every crater was clearly visible.

I looked at the position of the wheel.....

Mars was biggest and clearest at a parallax setting of NINE YARDS!

    I can't explain it.

Also, it didn't work as well with the leup because it has been reparallaxed to 70 yards max.

No way Wayne, you must have wobbled. What you saw was a sodium street light. Either that or you'd better duck quickly.
