American Sellers For A Scope Import

Can anyone recommend a US etail business from which to buy, for example, a Leupold Scope. As the exchange rate is looking good, I wondered if it would be cheaper to import, or should I go to Sportsman or opticswarehouse.

Been looking at a site called binoculars.com

Not sure how they compare price wise (other than the prices seem to be the same number in $ as we pay in £!), but they do include a shipping calculator in their checkout for the UK. Interestingly if you go through to checkout, it will quote you a much lower s&h charge than if you click on the blue 'shipping calculator' button.

Had 2 PMs from 2 different people recommending smartgunner.com as well.

    $380 seems to be the US price for a FX-III / M8 6x42
which is £200 - plus carriage and VAT (if I get caught)

These are £280 from opticswarehouse, and £285 from Sportsman

At a minimum I would guess that they would make you pay the VAT back, but would you have to pay a fine or even worse...serve prison time etc.?
I think they cheat us out of enough don't you

    yes. excellent

brought a bushnell elite 3200 10x40 from them about 18 months ago
and a bushnell lrf. both arrived in just 3 days with standard 3-5 day fedex
delivery. had to pay a small duty charge on them, as fedex pay the duty for you and then you re,imburse fed ex the amount. this is via a letter which you receive about a week later both were only about 20 quid if i remeber right.
even after i paid the duty both were still around fifty quid cheaper than
over here.and the exchange rate was lower than it is now

When shipping from the states, its worth asking the shop if they would mark the item as a gift, or commercial sample.

That way you can avoid paying the import duty, some will some wont, its worth a try.

Must say, given present exchange rates I'm getting tempted to buy from dnrsports as they have free shipping as well!

You would be better off asking it to be shipped as a 'Warrantee Return', I've had several and all came through no problem.

Bear Basin are the biggest bunch of self-abusers I've ever dealt with in 28 years of airgunning.

    1) Surly and obtuse customer service.

    2) Put my order on hold (without notifying me) because they were going to 'review their export policy'

    3) Decided they would not export a B&L Elite 4200 because it was against their new, but secret, export policy (again I had to prise this info out of them)

    4) Credited my credit card refund to someoe else's account - something they only owned up to after a couple more weeks.
Good deals with: Baz, foxshooter, vbull, leadhead, Gary C/Slim Shady, coddy, rixy, David, Baldie, BoNeS, mjonho, Reeco.

    Smile Scope

Just got a Leupold VXL from D&R. Ordered it through the UK site. No problems at all. Took about 10 days.
