When Bococks become "license" only, will a criminal record mean you can`t get a license? Will a mis-spent youth de-bar someone from owning an air pistol or will the normal airgun laws apply....ie banned for life if been sentenced to 3 years or more in custody.

IIRC if you have a criminal record you are barred from airguns. If you have a criminal record you wont get a FAC as that is a 'reason' that the Polis can deny one.
Thats how I read it but if anyone knows different......

That isn't correct I'm afraid. Custodial sentences of different lengths can mean either a temporary or lifetime ban on holding any kind of firearm including unlicenced air weapons, but criminal records resulting in other sentences do not create an automatic bar.

it was my understanding that it was illegal to own or use an airgun for life if you`d been sentenced to 3 years or more in custody, or banned for 5 years if you`d been sentenced to 3 months to 3 years. I got banned from driving in 1989(DD), would that be a legitimate reson the police could use to refuse a "brocock f.a.c.?

Neill, drink related offences are one of the warning bell triggers but AFAIK the police take into consideration the applicant's overall record and how long since the offence.

By comparison, I was convicted of common assault on the Isle of Man in 1994. Two years later licences were introduced there covering shotguns, airguns and crossbows, with police checks and safe keeping requirements similar to those for S1. I got my licence, accompanied by a letter informing me that any further violence or drink related conviction could lead to it being revoked.

I would very much doubt that you'd have a problem with such an old conviction.

    Good luck mate,

The Proposals for Tac System Licensing are going to be a totally New affair.

It will not be a back door into getting a FAC certificate.
As limitations will not be anywhere near as restrictive as a Fire Arms Certificate.

The only person . I believe will be resticted will be people currently banned under a Section 21.
From owning or Handling any gun.
Normally resulting from a past Firearms Offence.

Or people that do not fit the required approved Gun Safe.
    Which will be required.

But until the Bill is published , no one is really sure.

And with this Goverments current high number of proposed Bills, it could be many months before
we are able to see or read the Bill.

So let's get on with the Shooting of these great guns <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

A mate of mine was convicted of discharging a firearm in a public place ie firing a shotgun in a pub car park , plus assualt, plus ABH.

Served 5 years and has never had any problem in the last 20 years holding a shotgun cert or owning air rifles.

He has also been arrested for alledgedly threatening to shoot his wife with a shotgun, this also hasnt affected his shotgun licence. In fact he cant recall the last time they even came around to check.

In my opinion, if this is true, this is exactly the kind of negligence on behalf of the local FLO dept that led to the event that prevents us all from holding licenced pistols / semi-autos. I reckon both previous events, as described here, should deny shotguns from this mate of yours.

Its perfectly true although it did happen over 20 yrs ago.

I did say he was convicted but he claims he didnt touch the shotgun. The basic details were that he was in a pub brawl and when the police turned up he tried to leave in his car and they found a shotgun on the back seat. One of the witnesses said she had "heard" it being fired and the Judge/Jury believed her.

The second case was a complete fabrication from a disgrutled neighbour and he wasnt charged.

I would say that as he has never committed any kind of offence whilst holding a shotgun certificate would prove he IS a suitable person to hold one
