    Forming a club - advice?

    Ok, only a question... but...

Anyone formed an airgun club? What are the main problems? What needs to be considered? What are the legal issues?

and is there already a "how to" guide somewhere out on the world wide weird?

    Cheers,

There is also a club in Dunfermline. I suppose it depends on where you live in Fife, and on how far you want to travel.

Just been through it and got a grant of £4000 to get us started. Email me a street address and I'll send you a pack of paperwork. Reply to richclark24@hotmail.com, NOT the address in my profile.

    New club

First thing m8 is to find out how many airgunners are in your area, and would they be interested in joining/forming a club, how to find them is a problem, word of mouth is one way ,and an advert in local shops, once you have got some interest,I would say about 20 minimum ,you need their fees for ground rent and targets etc, give us another post when you get this information,Ron.

changing the subject a bit smudge, but DONT let anyone join who drives a japanese 4x4! Car drivers fair enough, but Landrover owners preferred.
As Landrover enthuiasts lets do all we can to rid our roads of these poor imitations!
Right, rant over, sorry about that.

Ron, I went to an outfit called Tarka Country Millennium Awards. They are basically an agency for the Millennium Foundation, with the duty of shortlisting local applications, sending them up to London for verification, and then administering the grant once it has been approved.

This area is known as Tarka country, being in the Taw and Torridge rivers catchment area. You would need to find out who are the local "agents" for the millennium commission in your area.

Don't bother with the Sports Council, they only want to look at projects of £250,000 upwards.

A key part of the application was to show that the award would benefit lots of people who would otherwise be disadvantaged. In my case, the youth who have precious little to do here. I majored on how they need something to keep them occupied and a new set of skills and personal disciplines to learn.

We did a survey of the village and got a straw poll of what take up there might be. We also got onto good terms with the local firearms team. Although they have no jurisdiction in respect of sub 12fp ranges, I wanted them on board. They came out and inspected the ground, no charge involved, studied all the paperwork, rules, constitution, safety policy, membership forms, risk assessments, insurance, etc, and gave us a glowing report wishing us success.

It was a good day for any shooting sport when the Millennium Commission decided to give it £4000 to start a new club. There's your precedent. Go do it.
