    FAC chaps - try a wadcutter - most effective <=35 yard pellet I have tried

    I have been playing with my FAC rated Pro-sport and RWS Meisterkulgen .22 pellets.

    Wow.

    Now I *know* the THEORY is that they have the trajectory of a lobbed brick - but I found that zeroed at 30 yards they hold on a bunny brain from 10ish to 35 yards and they hit like a hammer.

    I have been zapping some pest species birds with them and the THOCK (is that copyright Airgunworld?) of impact is really loud.

    750 fps at the muzzle and a measure 620 odd at 20 yards may not make it a Barracude or Daystate pellet but if you have a 16-18ftlb springer and want something VERY effective, especially for birds etc, then give them a go.

    Makes a nice mess of potatoes too <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Oh - btw - the Air Arms Pro-sport is the best springer that sensible mone can buy.

    Only problem is they can't handle more than 20 FP, but that's not an issue for close range work...

    I think wadcuters are great for close range, and far more accurate than Bisley Pest Cotrol (Crow magnums) out to 35 or 40 yards.

    Less than 20, the C.M.s are devastating <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_eek.gif" alt="Eek" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    They don't like the wind much either - as I found out to my cost this norning.

    At 30 odd yards I was having to aim a good couple of inches off in a relatively light wind.

    Still murder on pest birds though.!

    I just bought a Pro-Elite (22fpe) and I like using wadcutters for 10m indoor practice. Are there any wadcutters that will hold up to this?

    22ft/lb for 10m??

    Reckon you want wadcutters with little parachutes that come out the back to slow em down!! <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--><img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--><img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    I would certainly recommend a bl00dy good pellet catcher - one with a soft back to it like layers of carpet etc..

    WADCUTTERS

    I use Vogel "SPORTS KIT" wadcutters, £2.50 for a tin in my AATX200,FWB C60,And TAU 7 pistol, these are available in sizes although they are only a "cheap" pellet,i find that the 4.50 size suits all my guns and accuracy is excellent(the FWB will give consistant 1 hole groups from a bench)i always buy 5000 at a time the size is not on the tin but on a label on the outside of wrapper,the quality seems to be excellent,i have yet to find a damaged one in a tin.
    must agree though over 30yds the shape doesnt do much to help!

    I think you&apos;ll find a Meister&apos;...

    ...launched with 750fps will typically have much less left at 20yds than that -- more like 585. That's only 60% of the initial energy.

    This doesn't mean that flattops aren't noticeably more devastating in small quarry (incl' vegetables <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->) at short range than domes. They are -- because the wadcutter deposits more energy per mm of wound track just as it sheds more energy per yard in air. But it does mean that this modest advantage (which to begin with is relevant only to quarry so small that you probably don't NEED a boost to lethality) becomes a liability at all but the shortest ranges.

    That means, for my purposes, WCs just aren't versatile enough to justify setting up for.

    But different strokes... <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    My indoor range is a tad less than 20 yards - maybe 19 - and my chrono measured the wadcutters launched at 755fps and arriving at 618 fps (I rounded!).

    That is a LOT of loss (140 odd fps in less than 60 feet) but as I said great for pest birds (the size of starlings).

    I agree that it would make a poor choice for normal hunting scenario's.
