    Are we all going soft!

    Noticed a lot of talk, and posts of people planning to try it at HFT (myself included). Must say I didn't think much of it untill I tried it.
    Looking forward to future events, hopefully there will be some action closer to my end of the green.

    ..really its just an excuse to go girly .cal! <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    That may be the real reason why HFT has become so popular!

    All these big macho .22 users wanting to show their feminine side and get a .177 that they can also go hunting with <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Thort the idea of HFT was that you can use any calibre or is it going the way FT went all ready then ? <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Use what calibre you like,
    changing calibr's won't guarantee that you
    will become a marksman.
    Knowing your rifle and what it can do count's most <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    I found it a difficult choice between another .22 or a .177 for HFT. .177 has the benefit of straighter trajectory but don't forget it can be blown off course a lot easier than .22. I think im going to have a try with both, maybe use the .22 on windy days.<img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Actually the things that affect how a pellet can "ride the wind" are - I believe - to do with velocity and a pellets overall BC.

    Therefore many .177 pellets will fair better at "bucking" the wind than their .22 counterparts - at least at sub FAC energies.

    A good .22 pellet will do better than an average .177 one though.

    For example a Daystate FT would probably do better than a .177 Hobby.

    Course that's from just shooting the things.

    Pneuguy can talk better than I on the subject.

    HFT

    what does the 'H' stand for in HFT <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_confused.gif" alt="Confused" width="15" height="22"><!--graemlin:-->

    Trust me, it may seem a darft question from a keen airgunner, but ive always been .22 and apart from homemade paper targets to practice/zero my combos my only real targets have been ones with a pulse <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    well i tell a lie, i done a bit of what i call 'precision plinking'with da s410 but ive never been into FT or should i say HFT, probably cause ive never had the chance. Big lack of it in our area

    lot's of rabbits though <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    oh.......ok then
    Hunter Field Target.
    sounds alright.
    I supose the word hunter could suggest (.22FT) along with a few other things like (Hunter + .22) = field looney who can't shoot straight to save his life therfor not good enough to be classed in FT, but will give him a chance anyway but call it HFT <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    These days, what with all the net bc info and stuff, its only the fools that will continue to shoot .22 at 12 ft lbs.
    Be it at live targets or targets.
    .177 rules in every respect execpt for number of shots using a pcp.

    I used to shoot .22 as a kid, but these day I realise how wrong I was and how I was doing myself down before I even pulled the trigger.

    198 rabbits this yr all said .177 is great out to 57 yds.
    i hope to get 2 more, its gonna be hard though due to the frost.

    Frost

    YAH WHIMP our Shropshire bunnies laugh at frost!! <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> But when a .22 hits the bu99ers they,re in the frost of my deep freeze <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_cool.gif" alt="Cool" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

    Must be a fool then, taken 3 rabbits this year with .177, well over 500 with .22 at 12ftlb <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> . It's been said many times on here .177 is easier to learn at varying distances due to it's flatter trajectory but if you put the time in to learn, .22 is more than capable of doing the job.

    Perhaps we should shoot against each other at a HFT meet ? you with your .22 and me with my .177. A 2" kill zone to 45 yards is a reasonable representation of a rabbits head.
    See which kills the most ?
    cheers
