    Buying a HFT rifle..

Looking to buy a .177 for HFT, bugget of £300ish, which one?
    Have looked at:-
    Falcon FN19 Beech Sporter
    AA S400
    BSA Hornet

AA seems the best choice, what do you think?

I use an AA S400 which does the job, but dont think you'll go far wrong with a Hornet either. Also in your budget and an excellent rifle are the Pre-X Harriers, still some to be had new if you look around and fair bit cheaper than the Harrier-X

Fixed mag scopes seem to be the way to go 8 or 10 mag.

That reminds me, ill almost definatly want to take the rifle out in the fields so ill have to compromise on the scope front. I have a spare 3-9x50 but I guess thats lacking in the mag department. Ive noticed a lot of people using Deben Varmint? Ill have to look at the prices.

One thing to bear in mind for a HFT scope is that depth of field gets smaller the bigger lens of the scope (and with greater mag too). As you can't adjust the scope in competition 40 mm 'ish lenses will work better, larger range in focus, than larger lensed scopes which would normally be chosen for light gathering in hunting situations.

    BSA HORNET

Having owned all the guns you mentioned I would go for the Hornet, its a superb little gun and just the job for HFT.
I really enjoy using mine and cant wait for the next shooting day to get it out again.

BSA have a great after sales service too.

Go for the Hornet you wont be disappointed.

Like Gazo I've had all 3. The only one I still own is the Hornet. The Falcon is a decent gun but I doubt that many (if any) will sing it's praises against the other two. I'd rate the Hornet the best with the S400 a close second. Some good deals around on Hornets too which makes choosing the best gun even easier.

I agree with Gazo, good safe gun with a proved barrel, our Chairman who is a bit of a pedantic sod saw mine and is now buying one for HFT style shooting together with a mildot scope.
