    Ripley Rifles why so much?

At the risk of having to fend off some scarcastic remarks, why are Ripley rifles so much s/h, how many modles are there and is there a web site to visit?

They really are superbly engineered which dont come cheap, but for a hunting gun the Daystates have as good a build quality and similar style, at least in single shot

My ripper took a year to make (one of the first AR5's) but it was worth it.

One of the most accurate .22 air-rifles I ever had.

    And some bu99er stole it.

Still have not got around to replacing it.

Totally agree with Baz on build quality.

However over time other manufactures have - as a factor of their own products evolution - caught up with the Ripper's accuracy potential.

At least up to 40ftlbs or so - I would hazzard a guess that at the mightier ftlbages that the Ripper is still kong of the quality airguns (notice I said quality - so yes I know everyone's CAreer can go to 80 ftlbs when firing a brick!!!)

    Rippers

Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. They are exceptionally well built, accurate and a delight to look at and shoot. There may well be cheaper rifles capable of similar performance but they don't have the same 'feel' as shooting a Ripley. You really have to shoot one to appreciate it. I am sure the same can be said of a Whiscombe or Spartan.
The photo below shows their AR5s FT rifle with the XL9 mutishot hunter below. Not sure if the XL1/XL25 are still made? Anyone?

Anyone in my neck of the woods is welcome to have a go with either rifle.

Only the AR5S (which is basically the same as XL1) and the XL9 in current production as far as I know.

I'll go along with all the above, beautiful rifles.
Richard, is that XL9 a short action version? Looks very nice.

    Craig,
Yes, it's the 17 inch action with grd 3 woodwork. Handles very well.

    Cheers,
    Richard.

Thanks Richard, I thought they'd discontinued the short versions (which I prefer, I personally think the standard length is far too long with a silencer fitted).
They do a nice matt finish option too don't they?

As far as I know they still do either gloss or matt finishes. Not sure about the short actions as I bought this S/H. It is far nicer to handle than the longer versions and 203 shots from a 4000psi charge in .22
