Quiet plinker?

I want a back yard plinker and I'm thinking about some sort of pump up. What I'm really after is something quiet (don't want neighbour probs!).

The problems are:

Rifles are too powerful (like my TX)
CO2 - too loud.
And I want something a shade more powerful than my HW40.

So, not too powerful, not too loud but just right!

Seriously what about the Crosman pistols like the 1377/22? A shoulder stocked one would be ideal (backpacker?) - but are they too loud? Answers on a postcard...

The co2 pistols are pretty loud in .22 cal, dunno about .177. The pump pistols in .22 cal are halfway between them and my hw45. The hw45 has some mechanical(gun) noise but no pop(air/gas) noise. In the bush where there is no sound, the hw45 is the quietest of a crosman 2240 and a benjamin hb22 fyi. I have buddies these guns and when we shot them together it was obvious which one was the quietest...and deadliest .

Hope that helps.

Yup!

Co2 is loud I'm not sure why but it is. Why not just add a silencer? Make the problem go away if cash is to hand a Falcon Pistol would do the job. I was using Snipper22's Falcon last night with silencer very quiet at 5-6 FPE about 60 shots per fill.

How about the Ratcatcher with the red tip silencer ?
Excellent plinker

I'd go along with the Falcon pistol vote, especially the 8" action version as you'll get more shots. They're very accurate and light and 'informal' enough to enjoy, especially if you use the open sights which it comes with. You can also put them in a rifle stock and add a scope for a more accurate type of carbine should you want to.
I certainly wouldn't go for the pump up type of gun, apart from 95% of them being total cr@p, you'll soon get p1ssed off having to pump it up for each shot.
Co2 wouldn't be high on my choice list for a plinking gun either, it's cost far more than air.

Ahhhh, i forgot you guys are allowed to have silencers. Lucky devils. lol

The co2/pump would be the quietest then, if you don't want to add silencer then hw45 is alot of fun...good power too. Tempest is even more challenging and an excellent plinker, easier and quicker to load. If your looking for a 'pop can' gun then the tempest is tough to beat, reliable too.

I shoot my HW45 in the back garden without ever getting any flak from the neighbours, the .177 version has two power settings, the 'low' power setting is very quiet and still packs a punch, (although the POI shifts upwards...). also if you have acces to a machine shop you can easily have an adapter made that will allow you to fit a suppressor.

Or perhaps an Anics Skif? CO2, true, but since it has a sealed action (unlike revolver magazines that leak gas from the barrel-mag gap) it would be relatively easy to fit an effective suppressor, i believe you can buy an adapter for it. Plus of course it's considerably more powerful than your average CO2 pistol.
