Question BSA SuperSport or a cheap XS78?

Hi there, I would really like to hear some opinions on the two guns mentioned and if anyone would be kind enough to answer a couple of questions I have on them..

I'm thinking of buying a BSA SuperSport (preferable the SS carbine-length version) but am interested if anyone has anything bad to say about their accuracy or power?
Also, is it quiet? I have a Meteor Mk 2 which seems quiter than any of my pistols, does anyone know if the SuperSport is quieter or louder than a Meteor Mk 2?

With regard to the XS78, I'm tempted by its £60 price tag (Supersport is £160) Since I would have cash left for a decent scope and silencer in this case.. Anyone think this would be a bad move and that I should just go for the SuperSport even with such a big price difference? Do they vary much in power or accuracy?

Does anyone know which of the two would be quitest with or without silencers?

    Thanks!

Well a plus for the supersport is that it's self contained. No need to have to go out and buy co2. Plus the supersport has more power depending on what you want to use it for.

They can be quite lively to shoot though.

It depends on what you want to use it for and how much, the price of Co2 soon racks up if you are going to go through a few hundred pellets a month.
Co2 also is sensitive to temperature so in winter while the rifle will still use up it's Co2 it will produce a lot less FPE. (some graphs on my site in the page about the Ratty).

For general purpose the BSA will be fine just stick a silencer on it and it will be quiet, try listening when some body else is shooting it for a truer idea of the noise

    guess what im gonna say...........

ive had a supersport ss in the past, mine was a bit twangy and made alot of noise even when a bsa silencer was fitted, wasnt to impressed with the harshness of the recoil either, sold it and got a webley excel.........much smoother and less twang even though it was cheaper.....

i love me gas gun though..... got a small x32 scope and a webley pro system silencer on it, both cheap items but really helped the package.......accuracy and recoilless, and now quiet mates got a lightning xl and these are better than my old supersport, still got that bsa twang though.....

    all IMO.....xs78....for £60 too

    cheers

As a supersport owner, I am slightly biased....

But, it is full power 100% of the time, works in rain, cold, heat, dry, any time you need it too. Accuracy is fine, easily was getting 40mm out to 50yards, and under an inch for 30 yards. Barrel looks long in the comics, but it is not that long really:

I also use a raider PCP, which is not much more accaurate, but does run out of air....

The recoil of a supersport is quite a funny buzz, but it is much better than the empty phut of a PCP!

So, easy choice: webley raider in .22

Now you tell me. Just tried filling my uncle's supersport with a stirrup pump.

I was pumping up and down for all I was worth but the weapon simply refused to discharge after all my efforts.

£100 difference between the 2 but ask yourself this question, how long would it take me to go through £100 worth of co2 capsules?

during the winter months not that long and look at the resale potential...i'd rather buy a used supersport than a used xs/qb78.

a better option would be a used hw95k for about your £150 budget.

The XS78 is a nice little gun, after you do a little work to it, but a European springer is far better quality and also self contained. Don't overlook Gamo, even though they appear not to be popular yet here in the UK. JSR sells the full power Shadow 1000 for £105 new. Well worth considering. See review by Cinstone.

    Gamo

I have considered Gamo and would indeed prefer a self-contained springer over anything else.. I'm just not sure about them due to their lack of popularity, as you mentioned..

I really want something that will be reliable and easy to maintain, so I can concentrate on regular shooting without any worries! I also want it to be fairly quiet and without too much recoil as I don't want my new scope to get damaged when I get it!
Any other suggestion for something under £150 that might fit the bill? I'll look into Gamo a bit more..
