a very good all rounder. it's got the lot. clear optics, good magnification, ir, very robust and great value for money. i'll never own a better scope. my advise... GET ONE.

I very much agree. I use one of these scopes. The optics are very clear and with excellent low light gathering capacity. To my eyes these optics are better than any Leupold I have looked through.

The sidewheel focus / rangefinder I find very accurate - nice to have something which really does work! The MP20 reticule is great albeit a little cluttered. It is still very usable. Nevertheless, the MTC SC8 is better in this respect. The Falcon option of red /green illumination I find useful in different settings. A lot of my shooting is in woods which can be quite dark at times and I often use the IR. The only real criticism I have is the variable mag ring which is very stiff indeed. This is something which Falcon should address as I have heard it from other sources.

You get a free objective lens extension sunshade (which I use) and metal lens covers which are not flip up as per MTC but are nice to have anyway for keeping the scope lenses safe when storing the rifle.

All in I would say Falcon scopes are well worth the money and I don't hesitate to recommend them.

    Okay -- Falcon 4-16 x 56 or Viper 4-6 x 56?

Actually, are they basically the same scope but branded differently?

There are other people on BBS far better placed than me to answer that question C3PO. For example, Gary C re MTC and xxrobrvsxx re Falcon. However, to my mind they are different scopes but of equal good quality. I do think the SC8 has it over the MP20 reticule but either are better (IMO) than anything else. I don't think you would be at all disappointed with either make. I know I can't see myself ever selling the Falcon and that says something.

On the other hand I've just acquired an 8 - 32 x 60 MTC which seems pretty good to me! That'll go on a centrefire rifle however.

Yes, cannot wait to get it (thanks Rob again for your extra efforts to get one quickly).

It was a very difficult choice between this and the x50 Viper. In the end the larger objective size and price did it for me and the fact that equal numbers of people seem to rave about the optical quality of each. I've gone for the mil dot reticule because it's less "cluttered" and I will be using the rifle for 95% rabbit control. One problem I had encountered was the need for IR when shooting at dusk into a shed area where rabbits have infested. I know the Merlin is probably a little bit heavier but I'm happy with that as most of the time I'm "sniping".

I wonder if it's worth that forum being renamed "Optics: Views, Reviews and Questions". Seems a big demand for each.

Go for the Falcons you'll be glad you did, better than the MTC's IMO.
