do a search about NV gear, Sid is a consultant for Soviet Bazaar and Gary has written a piece on it recently
Hi all,
I'm an experienced air gunner but have never even looked through a N.V. Scope. Can someone tell me if the N.V. rifle sights are any good from E-bay, especially the Falcon brand??
Cheers
John

My expertise is in using it now. I have had Gen 1 / 2 and 3. But I only know what I've used Before I buy I ask Sid.
And to be brutally honest - stay away from E-bay, buy on here.
Under £500 - NS156 or D141
Over that go to Sid 1st, it's too much money to burn
Just got the Anschutz carbine out last night to get it ready for the new NV scope and realised it doesn't have the holes drilled and tapped in the receiver for the weaver base that comes with the new scope :-(
I've posted a wanted ad for a 11mm to Weaver adapter in the wanted section. :-)
Clive , if you cant get one from here Deben sell them for £40.
£40 ? wrt bollix
Soviet Bazaar extended converter under £30. And they are the danglies
^^^^ or them <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_smile.gif" alt="Smile" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:--> ^^^^
Blimey both sound expensive...thats why I'm after a 2nd hand one. I only want it to check out the scope before I drill and tap the receiver for the proper weaver rail.
Thanks for the info though.
I suppose I could machine an 11mm famale dovetail in the base of the weaver rail and drill and tap the rail for grub screws and mount it that way. Would be lower profile than an adapter too. We'll see...if a reasonable 2nd hand one doesn't present itself I might go that route :-)
Cheers

What rifle are you using Clive?
Sounds a bit drastic, drilling your receiver.....
And £24 is a lot of money?
Not had a Volkswagen serviced at one of their garages recently, have you?

Baldie,
It's a .22 RF Anschutz carbine (14" barrel with moderator).
I've been offered an adapter at a very reasonable price now in the wanted section...bleedin marvelous this BBS is. Posted the wanted request this morning for not the commonest part, had a reply by lunchtime and deal done and dusted not much longer after that. Plus all the help and advice on where to source a new part if a used one wasn't forthcoming.
I just want the adapter to check the sight out and see where the weaver rail needs to be for correct eye relief. Then for the lowest profile I will drill and tap the receiver to accept the standard weaver rail which looks to be quite a bit lower than the adapter. Then again I might just use the adapter :-) if it works and I'm feeling lazy.
Thanks again all.
Cheers

Sid and all,
Just got the new NV sight this morning. Looks the business. The mil-dot reticle is actually spaced 5 mils apart, due to the lower magnification, so it looks good and clear.
You are right Sid...there is one black spot :-( but it's right at the edge of the image so I'm not bothered.
Haven't tested it properly yet as obviously it's daytime.
I'm pretty gutted though cause the scope has arrived before the mount...bah.
I will let you know how I get on later when its dark.
Cheers
Clive
I'm so eager to test out the scope...I had one of my engineers drill and tap the receiver for the weaver base that comes supplied.
Scope now on the gun and looking great.
Can't wait till dark now.
Clive
Got to admire your b*lls clive. This was a safe thing to do?
If you ever sell your baby, [Anschutz carbine] will it need reproofing?
ATB.

Baldie,
Cheers mate :-)
Won't need re-proofing because of the NV sight needing to be mounted to the rear for correct eye relief...the only holes drilled were through the top of the receiver in the boltway that doesn't see any pressure. If I sell it on I can just bung the holes with a couple of low profile M4 grub screws.
Nice and low profile too. Only 2 1/2" from bore to centre of scope.
I wasn't too worried because modern gunsmithing is more akin to precision engineering on the metalwork side of things. Plus I stood over him saying 'dont you f*ckin scratch it!" every 3 minutes or so. To be fair there is not a single vice, tool or handling mark anywhere on the gun :-)
