Not part your fault, all your fault.

How is the seller supposed to advise you if you dont ask or give the correct information?

Seeing this post, and having finally managed to decypher it seconds before I lost the will to live..
If you are too dumb to find out whether a scope is springer rated before buying it you are hardly in a position to berate a seller for his lack of psychic powers

You may have a feint chance of a refund or replacement, but only if you had stated at the time what rifle it was for.

I can understand your frustration but its a tad unfair to tar everyone with the same brush (well thats how it read to me)

I have had a few mishaps bying second hand on the net.

Just recently I bought a caravan off that was badly described. However it didnt stop me buying a digital camera 2 weeks later. Only difference it made was to make me do my research before I parted with my hard earned credit card details.

Live and learn mate, would be a shame to miss out on some of the real bargains out there.

You buy a cheap, non-springer rated scope, fit it to a spring rifle, and use it for a month for a purpose for which it was not designed or built before it breaks.....well my friend, the consumer protection laws won't give you an ounce of comfort - and nor should they.

The thing with cheap riflescopes is that they are mostly made for the vast US market, where they will be put on smallbore cartridge rifles that are infinitely kinder to the scope than a full power recoiling air rifle. For your purpose you need a scope that has been rated as suitable for a spring air rifle. If you buy a springer rated scope and it dies after a few weeks, you MIGHT have some comeback; otherwise if the shop does replace the item it will be doing so out of goodwill and not because it is obliged to.

Look at it this way - if you want to save money - and most of us do - then buy secondhand but buy the best kit you can find for your money. Plenty of advice to be had on here too!

Basically what Adrian meant was the the scope wasn't springer-rated. If that makes sence<img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->

Scopes are mainley designed for full bore rifles. There have however been a few made that have been classed as Springer-rated, simmons pro-air being one of them.

If you haven't been shooting for long then you're in the right place - this BBS is a great, helpful friendly online community.

It seems to me that buying online is not the issue with the problem you have had. You would have had the same problem had you bought the same scope privately from a boot sale, small ad in a shop window, or classified paper.

Why not ask for advice here before your next shooting purchase?

    Good luck

Personally, I'd have spent the money on a dictionary and an after hours course in the correct use of the English language. <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="Roll Eyes" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin:-->
